Flameshaper Preservation Evoker Review
I had some fears when «Ruby Adept» / Flameshaper was first announced that it would be more of a Devastation tree with Preservation tacked on — like a few other healer / dps trees have been. I was mistaken. This is a great Preservation tree with a good mix of raw power nodes and a new ability that opens up even more combo potential. Flameshaper feels like a unique evolution of base Evoker gameplay and I'm very excited to test it out.
The Echo Question
Almost all Evoker healing spells can Echo. That is, if you have an Echo buff out they will consume it and heal the target (and sometimes more). Engulf is a little like Living Flame in that it can be used both on an enemy and ally target which likely means that we can Echo this too. The gameplay implications are massive and you will play this tree entirely differently based on the answer to this question. We'll cover these in the Node walkthrough but for now, just keep in mind that we aren't sure. It probably can be Echo'd but it also might be best if it can't. You will play the tree very differently depending on the answer to this question.

Keystone: Engulf
It's very nice to get a new ability as part of our hero tree. I've spoken quite often about how our relatively small pool of non-utility abilities often get 5-6+ effects attached to them which can make them difficult to learn — particularly as a beginner. Adding Engulf as an ability sidesteps that and most of the tree revolves around it.
Engulf can be used either offensively or defensively. It's on a short cooldown too so you'll be able to do a bit of both depending on the situation you're in. They'll probably be mostly defensive in raid and 50/50 in Mythic+. We don't know how strong it is yet, but it gets a huge 50% buff for each DoT / HoT on the target so expect the base version to be quite weak. We
