Devastation Flameshaper Evoker Review
Blizzard has revealed the Flameshaper Hero Talents. This is the shared Hero talent for Devastation and Preservation Evokers in The War Within.
Note: The icons for each talent are placeholders.
What is Flameshaper?
If you don't recognize the name, Flameshaper is the new name for Ruby Adept. Flameshaper Evokers specialize in breath magic, making Fire Breath explosive. Blizzard had this to say about Flameshaper:
Flameshapers specialize in Red Dragonflight spells related to life-energy, flame, and breath magic. They have the ability to engulf enemies or allies in dragonflame, causing Fire Breath or Dream Breath to detonate, dealing massive damage or healing.
Flameshaper is much easier to understand than Scalecommander at a glance. Instead of Mass Disintegrate and Bombardments, Flameshapers use a new ability called Engulf that uses Fire Breath as fuel for massive explosions. Mass Disintegrate may go brrr but Engulf goes BOOM!

Core Components
Engulf
Engulf is a 20 second cooldown with 2 charges (due to Red Hot) that increases in effectiveness, depending on how many periodic effects you have on your target. Periodic effects mean damage over time debuffs. This ability is likely set to only work with «whitelisted» effects, so we should be able to get 150% effectiveness with proper setup reliably:
- Fire Breath — Our most crucial damage over time debuff. Technically, you can use Engulf without this debuff, but it would be a mistake.
- Ruby Embers — This talent is a choice node with Engulfing Blaze that we do not currently take. Causes Living Flame to add damage over time to the target.
- Enkindle—This is a new passive damage over time debuff we get from spending Essence on Pyre and Disintegrate.
