Nintendo has announced the arrival of three old-school games cominf to. Members can now try out the Super Famicom games Wrecking Crew ’98 and Amazing Hebereke and the SNES title Super R-Type. Of the three games, only Super R-Type was previously released outside of Japan.

A new video gives a brief new look at Super Nintendo World's upcoming Donkey Kong Country-themed expansion. The theme park first opened as a part of Universal Studios Japan, first in 2020 as a soft opening and later a grand opening in 2021. The Super Nintendo World theme park has a number of Super Mario Bros. related items and attractions, including a restaurant, rides, and even photo opportunities with characters like Princess Peach. Shortly after the park's grand opening in Japan, Nintendo announced an expansion would be coming to the park that will open later in 2024.

Nintendo is already making plans for developing more role-playing games, as suggested by one recently surfaced survey. Specifically, Nintendo currently appears to be brainstorming ideas for new RPGs based on the Super Mario franchise.

New Mario and Princess Peach Spirits will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on March 22. A number of Spirits based on characters from various franchises have made their way to the popular fighting game in recent months.

Nintendo has confirmed the file sizes for the upcoming Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Switch remasters. Both of these games were first announced during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct, and instantly became highly anticipated releases. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a long-awaited remaster of the GameCube original, with Luigi's game being a complete port, bringing the classic title from the Nintendo 3DS to the Switch. Both of these remasters will also add some new gameplay features and remastered graphics.

As the Mario Day celebrations continue, Nintendo has teased that new Lego Super Mario Kart sets will drop in 2025.

A new film set in The Super Mario Bros. Movie universe has been announced. Described as “a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros.,” it is unclear if it will be a direct sequel or a spin-off of the highly successful 2023 movie starring Chris Pratt and Jack Black. However, we do know it will be released on April 3, 2026, and that Illumination is once again the studio behind the animation. The end credits of the 2023 film teased Yoshi, so that could be the direction it is going.

The annual celebration arrives this Sunday, and multiple retailers are getting in on the action. Fans can save money on several Nintendo Switch Mario games from retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. Some deals are available now, with more starting on March 10.

Trying to predict what Nintendo is doing or will do in the upcoming weeks, months, and rest of the year has become a “pastime” here on the interest. Why? It’s because The Big N went from a “this is going to be a sendoff year for the Switch so we can welcome in our new console” to reports coming out that the Switch successor won’t even be coming out in 2024. This was only bolstered by recent events like the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase and Pokemon Presents. So, will Mario Day be any different from those two in what it potentially shows off?

February hasn’t been the kindest to Nintendo Switch gamers. The reasons for this are plentiful. First, there have been rumors galore about the Switch successor and when it would come out, culminating in the system not coming out until 2025 due to gaming and hardware concerns. Then, the first Nintendo Direct of 2024 turned out to be nothing more than a Partner Showcase, which didn’t show a single exclusive title for the Switch. The recent Pokemon Presents added to those woes by revealing one game for 2025. Then, there’s the “Mario problem” that fans have been talking about.

The beginning of Nintendo’s 2024 is about to start. In 2023, they started off with a big title in January and then sprinkled in key 1st and 3rd party games throughout the rest of the year. But in 2024, they’re doing a bit more “focused” of an approach. Specifically, they’re focusing on games featuring Mario and his friends, with the first “big drop” being a remake of Mario vs Donkey Kong. The original GBA title was successful in its day, and it spawned a mini-franchise that went several titles deep. But with this remake, Nintendo has tried to go bigger with it. So, how did they do?

According to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa, The Super Mario Bros. Movie helped grow the Switch console's sales in new international markets. Nintendo recently released its third-quarter fiscal earnings, which cataloged a number of impressive milestones. Information contained in this report includes updated sales numbers for the best-selling Switch games, as well as other financial milestones. Investors also got the chance to ask about recent trends and how they affected Nintendo's sales, such as the 2023 The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

As Nintendo has proven over the last several years, they’re dedicated to not just making the best video games possible featuring their IPs but trying to take those IPs and bring them to new places so that they can “lure in” new people to check them out. Last year, they released the first of what might be a grand movie slate, with Mario’s first animated feature not only getting nominated for awards but also bringing in over 1.3 billion dollars! Then, there’s Super Nintendo World, the amusement that Nintendo has built with Universal Studios. The park already has locations in Japan and California, and Orlando is set to drop soon.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) has announced that legendary Nintendo composer Koji Kondo will be inducted into the 27th Annual D.I.C.E Awards Hall of Fame on February 15. Kondo rose to icon status with his music production for The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. franchises and will receive a major honor for his beloved work.

When the Nintendo Switch first came out in 2017, a rumor sprouted out early about a “unique collaboration” between Mario and the infamous Rabbids. The rumor was so “weird” that gamers truly felt it was fake and that if it was real, it would be a terrible thing. When the collaboration was released later that year, gamers couldn’t get enough of it. So much so that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle became the best-selling 3rd party Switch game at a time, and it wasn’t long before its sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope, was announced. But that game had a unique “behind the scenes” story all its own.

A new trailer for Mario vs. Donkey Kong has revealed the game's level count, new worlds, and features that were added to the Nintendo Switch remake. Nintendo surprised a lot of fans when it revealed the original Mario vs. Donkey Kong GBA game was being remade. Much like the GBA original, Donkey Kong has stolen all the Mini-Mario toys, and the player must navigate Mario through a series of platforming puzzles to get them back.

The rest of September and the entirety of October are so packed with big video game releases, it might feel like Super Mario Bros. Wonder's arrival is still a long way off. In reality, the first truly new 2D Mario game in well over a decade is only a little more than five weeks away. Probably time to get those pre-orders in if you haven't already, especially with so many other games to potentially buy over the course of the next few months, and if you pre-order Wonder through Walmart, you'll get a pretty special bonus.

A that seems to take inspiration from the Mario Party series has been announced for the Nintendo Switch.

One of my favorite Starfield features is its wildly robust ship designer. We've already seen how amazing and ridiculous some of these user-created ships can be, from classic Star Wars starships to a fully operational Normandy from Mass Effect.  As an F1 fan, though, this one is my favorite so far.

Mario Kart Tour has been hit with a blue shell with Nintendo announcing there will be no more updates on Mario Kart Tour from October 4th. The game can still be played, however content will be reused and there will be no more courses, karts, or characters to unlock. You can download and play Mario Kart Tour here on Google Play.

Nintendo's mobile racer is coming to the end of its development cycle.

Nintendo is putting the brakes on Mario Kart Tour, as the company announced the game will receive its final new content next month.

Mario Kart Tour was definitely one of Nintendo’s more successful forays into the mobile gaming space, but four years on from its launch, the kart racer is nearing the end of its active lifecycle, with Nintendo and DeNA confirming that it will stop receiving new content soon.

I didn’t need to play much of Mario Kart Tour to find out it’s not for me: but even if you’re still enjoying it, the race is coming to an end in the near future. According to a new in-game notification straight from Nintendo (via OatmealDome), new content for Mario Kart Tour will cease to come out from October 4, 2023 onward.

It’s been confirmed that the mobile Mario Kart game, Mario Kart Tour, will no longer be receiving new content from next month, the week after it turns four years old.

Charles Martinet has explained the meaning behind his new role as Mario ambassador after stepping down from voicing the iconic character last month. 

Sometimes, My Nintendo rewards can drop without warning. Although Super Mario Wonder is tenuously linked to this new “Mario shopping bag” reward, it doesn’t really have anything to do with Wonder specifically and could have arrived at any point in time. Still, it exists, and you can snag it!

Last month, Nintendo revealed longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will no longer voice the character. The company stopped short of revealing who is taking over the role, although it did say we’d find out in the upcoming release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which does not feature Martinet as Mario. 

One speedrunner has set a new Super Mario Bros. world record for the first time in over a year, and runners are now only 22 frames away from literal perfection.

Years ago I met Charles Martinet at E3. We shot a quick video where I said “It’s a-you?” and he shrieked “It’s a-me!” in the voice. I was so taken aback that I said “Holy Sh*t!” – He immediately took me aside and asked me not to post the video, as it would be inappropriate for children. We ended up posting it anyway, with my swear bleeped out, and it was a cute, hopefully inoffensive bit of fun. But what I really took away from that moment is how much Charles Martinet cares about his fans. He wants to fill their hearts with hope and joy, and not whatever the opposite of those two things is. That may be why we still haven’t heard exactly why he’s no longer the voice of Mario in the games.

Nintendo announced on Tuesday that it would be releasing a few new bundles, including a Mario Kart 8 bundle and Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch Lites, next month.

Nintendo of America recently announced that Charles Martinet would be hanging up his cap as the voice of Mario, a role he's occupied the goomba-stomping boots of since 1996. Nintendo of America announced the transition via a post on Twitter/X last month, revealing he'd be «moving into the brand-new role of Mario Ambassador.»  

Typically, when you’re a gaming icon, you get plenty of titles to show you off and keep you “fresh” in the minds of gamers. But in the case of Rayman, his story is a bit more complicated. He was once Ubisoft’s mascot and had console and handheld games for fans to enjoy. Plus, his unique look and abilities made it so his games played slightly different from other competitors. But then, ironically, he created his “replacement” when Ubisoft put the character against the Rabbids. Their brand took off, and he took a back seat for many years.

It was a surprise to fans worldwide when we discovered that the iconic character, Mario, would receive a new voice actor. Nintendo’s flagship character had been voiced for decades by Charles Martinet. This actor has been offering his talents to Nintendo to give Mario those iconic phrases fans have become familiar with. But after his lengthy run, it looks like Charles was ready to hang up his cap and pass the torch. Unfortunately, we’re not sure just who that torch has been passed on to.

Nintendo has revealed three new Switch bundles releasing next month. One is a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bundle that includes a standard Switch model and the other two are special Animal Crossing: New Horizons-themed Switch Lite consoles that include the game. All three bundles will be released on October 6. 

We may have heard Mario and Luigi’s new voices in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but Nintendo will not be confirming who is voicing them until the game’s release, according to Nintendo president Doug Bowser.

We won't find out who the new voice of Mario is until the credits of Super Mario Bros. Wonder roll.

Busy sort of morning for me, so let's get right into the good stuff. Things worth mentioning specifically: Activision is celebrating 25 years of Spyro today with some discounts, and I'm sitting here wondering how it's been a quarter of a century since I first dragon-horn-butted and/or immolated my first sheep. Lastly, I've also spotted a decent Rebellion sale for PC gamers, and Tears of the Kingdom is back to its lowest pricepoint, too. Throw some rupees at that, for sure.

A constant struggle in the video game industry is the ability and desire to evolve a franchise beyond what it has been in the past and into new and exciting territory. While not every franchise necessarily needs grand scale changes, most are susceptible to repetition and getting bogged down by repeating the same gameplay. Certain recent sports titles have that issue. In the case of the Mario games, it can be said that things are going on behind the scenes to ensure the games don’t grow stale, something that series creator Shigeru Miyamoto will be most pleased about.

If the last six months or so of gaming have taught us anything, it’s that the “rivalry” between the three main gaming publishers is still going strong. That might be sad to say or hear, but it’s the truth. Sony sued Microsoft for anti-trust reasons basically, and during those proceedings, neither of them wanted to admit that Nintendo was a “true rival” for them due to the Switch’s price point, of all things. These three have been going at it for a long time, yet Phil Spencer found time to go and play Super Mario Bros Wonder at the recent Nintendo Live event.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s talkative flowers can be silenced, but you won’t be able to entirely escape their hints and comments, Nintendo has confirmed. 

Super Mario Bros. Wonder includes chatty flowers which share jokes and useful hints as you pass by — though Nintendo has now confirmed you can put them on mute if you'd prefer.

Last week, Nintendo revealed a host of new gameplay and details on Super Mario Bros. Wonder in a dedicated Direct presentation. The publisher has also followed that up with an extensive new gameplay showing for the upcoming 2D sidescrolling platformer.

Super Mario fans think that one of the mustachioed plumber's most famous catchphrases, "mamma mia", has been replaced with "wowie zowie" in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

I'm sure most of you reading will have had an argument or two with a sibling or friend over who gets to play as who in a video game. Certain characters will always be more popular than others, especially in a series like Super Mario Bros. where certain characters are viewed as more important than others. Mario is firmly established as the main guy and Princess Peach is the main woman, and there will have been countless fights over who gets to play as them over the course of the series' history.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder will seemingly allow players to mute the strange new Talking Flowers characters, which is good news for those of us who don't want to think about what Goombas taste like.

Many people have Super Mario Bros Wonder on their minds, given that the title just had a significant Nintendo Direct that broke down the various elements of gameplay, plot, and the new kingdom players will be in. As if on cue, the floodgates opened after that, and the team talked about everything to do with the game, including the parts of its development process. For example, the team wasn’t rushed to develop something special early on, as the producer wanted them to make something special. But a question about what Mario’s creator had to say about the game has popped up.

Thank the Gods of Silence; you can mute those talking flowers in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. That damned “onward and upward” that one spews at Mario is locked in a very painful spot in my mind. It’s like having a grain of sand between the folds of brain, slowly aggravating everything around it in small but significant ways.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s director, who is not the semi-retired  Shigeru Miyamoto, and is in fact Nintendo veteran Shiro Mouri, has shed light on what his team were thinking when they came up with the out-of-the-box ideas for this game.

One of the biggest complaints in the video game community is that certain developers are so driven to get their video game titles out that they’re willing to rush through development. That’s a problem, as it can leave games feeling incomplete, or they can be so rushed that it leaves a ton of bugs and glitches in the title. Nintendo has always been a company that has prioritized a game’s quality over everything else more times than not. That was apparently the case with Super Mario Bros Wonder, as the team wasn’t rushed during the early stages of development.

Nintendo outlined Super Mario Bros. Wonder in a recent Direct, with the various courses, mechanics and new features showcased in glorious detail. However, it’s interesting to note that when the platformer was in the prototyping stage, it didn’t have a due date or deadline.

It's been 11 years since the last proper Mario side-scroller, a fact that surprises Nintendo's veteran exec Takashi Tezuka when I point it out. Tezuka has worked on dozens of projects since the launch of 2012's New Super Mario Bros. U — including Super Mario Maker, Nintendo's create-your-own-Mario sandbox. Still, such a wait for more handcrafted Mario levels seems notable.

After its rather trippy announcement earlier this summer, the Super Mario Bros. Wonder direct has revealed an awful lot more gameplay for the new 2D Mario platformer, coming out on 20th October 2023.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder director Shiro Mouri says the reason for Princess Daisy being in the game is two-fold: people want to play as her and, for his own personal benefit, it'll hopefully stop his two daughters from fighting over who gets to play as Peach.
