The Crew Motorfest Sets First Week Sales Record for Franchise

Ivory Tower’s The Crew Motorfest launched amid several big releases this month, from Starfield to Mortal Kombat 1. Nevertheless, it’s seen some success, with Ubisoft claiming it had the best first week for the series in total unit sell-through. Overall consumer spending and adoption rate of the Season Pass also set new records.

The Crew Motorfest Debuts in Second Place in Weekly UK Retail Charts

The Gfk has released the latest data for weekly physical software sales in the UK (via GamesIndustry), and the biggest new release of last week, The Crew Motorfest, has seen a decent debut. The open world racer sits in second place, which is the same position The Crew 2 debuted in when it launched in 2018. Its physical launch sales, however, are about a third of the 2018 game, as per GI.biz’s Christopher Dring on Twitter– though it’s worth keeping in mind that its digital share is likely to be much higher.

The Crew Motorfest Review

A fair number of racing games are on the market to keep fans happy. With a great mix of arcade and simulation racers, the spread is impressive to suit your preference. In decades gone by, there were only a handful of top choices dominated by big-name developer houses. This has all changed again over the past 5-10 years, in which new challengers could carve out a fanbase. One such franchise has been The Crew, which impressed with its first game in 2014 and all but staked its claim as a top contender in 2017 with The Crew 2. With a much more extended waiting period between the first two games for its third instalment, The Crew Motorfest has finally landed, so here is the full review.

We’re on the cusp of the weekend once again, and as is usual for this time of year, there’s a fresh batch of big games that are releasing. The Crew Motorfest Review

Not many things are better the smaller they get. Mortgages? Certainly. Golf scores? Sure. Kidney stones? Okay, yes. But video games? That’s more of a grey area. For The Crew Motorfest, developer Ivory Tower has chosen to give its chunky interpretation of the entire continental USA the chop in favour of something far more concise: a scaled-down riff of the single island of O’ahu, Hawaii. The result is better in some ways and worse in others, but overall it’s actually an experience that sometimes feels like it’s trying harder to emulate Forza Horizon than its own predecessors. I can’t say I blame them considering how much I loved Horizon 5, and they’ve done a good enough job at it that I’ve had many great moments in Motorfest over the past several days. It has the best handling in the series so far, and it does boast some incredibly strong lighting. However, while Motorfest is a mostly earnest romp for car lovers in a vibrant, tropical paradise, it definitely loses some momentum due to its confusingly dead world and slightly uneven campaign, and its omnipresent, baked-in microtransactions are a constant bugbear.

The Crew Motorfest Review in Progress

It’s time for another festival of motorsports, but someone else is running the show this time around. The Crew Motorfest is the latest entry in Ubisoft’s driving series, and following the Crew 2’s shift into multisport after the original’s gang-based narrative, Motorfest turns yet another corner, arriving in a kind of festival spot that Forza Horizon has made its calling card in recent years. It’s an interesting design decision and one which may have you wondering, at what point does influence become imitation?
