He stated that Nintendo did promotions in certain regions, like Mexico and South America, beyond what the company normally did in the past during the holidays, which only increased Switch hardware sales despite its decline in recent years. «There is a vast difference between the regions where the movie (Super Mario Bros.) was shown and the countries and regions where Nintendo Switch is being sold,» said Furukawa «We have conducted promotions that are beyond what we have done in the past in the holiday season. As a result, even though hardware sales are declining as a whole, sales in Mexico have increased.»
An investor asked about how Nintendo plans on expanding business in other regions and how it aims to address problems that caused issues in penetrating the market, such as the cost of the Nintendo Switch game console. Furukawa answers that while Nintendo isn't able to expand the dedicated game console business, the Super Mario Bros. movie still made an impact by exposing audiences to Nintendo and Super Mario Bros., and there are still opportunities to grow, such as through its mobile apps.
