Classic Rare games have been added to Nintendo Switch Online

Sea of Thieves, one of Microsoft’s biggest live service success stories, wouldn’t have seemed like a very likely candidate to get a multiplatform release until not that long ago, but times are a-changing, and Rare’s multiplayer pirate game is now just a few weeks out from its PS5 launch. And ahead of its release, the game’s pre-orders have gone live on the console. A trailer has also been released to commemorate the same. Check it out below.

Following the launch of Sea of Thieves' radical structural overhaul last month, Rare is readying to release a new mid-season update next week that'll add anti-cheat and subscription-free solo play to its swashbuckling pirate adventure. Plus, a big 2024 content preview is on the way as part of Sea of Thieves' sixth anniversary celebrations.

Developer Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves will be getting an anti-cheat system in place with a mid-season update planned for release next week. During its recent Sea of Thieves News video, the studio revealed that the game will be making use of Epic’s Easy Anti-Cheat, which is also used by other major online games like Fortnite and Apex Legends.

True to leaks, Microsoft recently announced that Rare’s multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thieves is indeed headed to PS5. The game will launch for Sony’s platform on April 30 as one of four first-party Xbox exclusives to get multiplatform releases, and will release with full cross-play support.

It’s true that sometimes gamers get a bit TOO invested in the small details and make false assumptions, but regarding the latest Nintendo Direct, some fans feel they’ve seen their first tease about the Switch successor, and it’s not where you think it might be. In this case, it wasn’t about the games that were shown but the animations of the Direct itself.

In a surprise announcement at the latest Nintendo Direct event, it was confirmed that five games developed by Rare are making their way to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service later today. Four of the new game additions will be available to vanilla Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, while one of the game will require a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, which is a little pricier but gives subscribers access to even more legacy games.
