A CD Projekt Red dev says that Cyberpunk 2077 was "just a warm up", as development on the sequel begins. Now in a new office, narrative director Igor Sarzyński says that the team is going to "kickstart" work on the next game, which is currently known as Project Orion.

Igor Sarzyński, the creative director of Cyberpunk 2077, has taken to Twitter to tantalize fans with hints about what appears to be one of the final secrets yet to be uncovered in the Phantom Liberty quest. His post emerged a few days after another developer revealed that there are several closely guarded secrets within Cyberpunk 2077's universe that no player has yet stumbled upon.

This studio was all about delivering some compelling narrative-driven journeys, and while the trilogy was well received, their follow-up project failed to deliver right out of the gate. Cyberpunk 2077 had a terrible launch, and it left fans seeking refunds and bad-mouthing CD Projekt Red for delivering an unfinished project. The studio took quite a bit of time to turn the game around, but that failed launch wouldn’t deter them from bringing out another installment. Today, we’re finding out that the narrative director behind Project Orion has started work at the new office. 

It's a new year, and the devs at CD Projekt Red are turning their eyes away from Cyberpunk 2077 to focus on its upcoming sequel from the studio's new Boston office. In a tweet, Cyberpunk narrative director Igor Sarzyński said that the team is ready to «officially kickstart our Orion [the codename for Cyberpunk's sequel] journey» in the wake of Cyberpunk the first's very successful Phantom Liberty expansion and 2.0 update.

Work on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is finally underway, and members of the development team seem to be extremely excited for it, judging from some recent comments.

Fresh out of the launch of Cyberpunk 2077’s highly anticipated DLC expansion, Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red has its sights set on the future of the Cyberpunk series, and according to narrative director Igor Sarzyński, the studio is aiming for it to somewhat follow in the footsteps of The Witcher.

As troubled as Cyberpunk 2077 was at launch, it's remarkable to think back to what a CD Projekt Red game looked like just 12 years before. The first Witcher game is almost comically rudimentary next to the lavishly motion captured, ray traced first-person world of Cyberpunk. But it was fun, with a fantasy setting that felt different to other RPGs I'd played at the time. The graphical leap in 2011's The Witcher 2 was nothing short of stunning, and the quality of the sidequests in The Witcher 3's massive open world made CD Projekt my favorite RPG developer just four years later. I'm thinking about that progression now that CD Projekt is moving on to work on Cyberpunk 2077's sequel—and so are the developers.

Phantom Liberty was released last month for Cyberpunk 2077, marking the first and final paid expansion for CD Projekt’s FPS/RPG. It was a huge success, with three million sold in the first week and extensive critical acclaim, capping off a strong comeback story for the developer after a controversial launch.

CD Projekt Red never thought about developing an expansion set after Cyberpunk 2077’s multiple endings. 

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red, Netflix, and Milan Records have finally released the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners soundtrack, including the Franz Ferdinand theme song, «This Fire.» The soundtrack also features the outro song, «Let You Down» by Dawid Podsiadło, and others that play throughout the limited series anime like composer Akira Yamaoka’s «Whatever It Takes» and more. The soundtrack, which also features music by composers Marcin Przybyłowicz and P.T. Adamczyk, is available to stream today, but CDPR has revealed a vinyl release coming in early 2024; preorders are now open. 

It turns out that post-game expansions for Cyberpunk 2077were never on the cards, developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed.

If you'd asked me what I thought a Cyberpunk 2077 expansion would focus on after I first beat the game in December 2020, I would have guessed the heist on the Crystal Palace satellite casino teased in two of the base game's endings. According to CD Projekt Red narrative director Igor Sarzyński, though, the team was always firm on Cyberpunk's endings being the final word on V's story. Spoilers for 2077 and Phantom Liberty ahead.
