Phantom Liberty was released last month for Cyberpunk 2077, marking the first and final paid expansion for CD Projekt’s FPS/RPG. It was a huge success, with three million sold in the first week and extensive critical acclaim, capping off a strong comeback story for the developer after a controversial launch.
However, considering the story of Phantom Liberty and how it ends, one has to wonder whether the developer thought of continuing any of the base game’s endings. Spoilers for Phantom Liberty’s ending follow, so be warned.
PC Gamer spoke to narrative director Igor Sarzyński about the same. “We did consider a couple of other scenarios. But none of them were a continuation of the main game story. The endings are too diverse to have a single post-main story thread make sense for them all – and you don’t want to pick one and invalidate other people’s choices.”
Of course, it’s about more than just accounting for player’s choices. “The endings are written as we wanted them – leaving players with an uneasy feeling, forcing them to think, not providing straight answers. They stick with you. No need to water them down. Sometimes less is more.”
As for the new ending that the expansion added, it also channels some uneasiness and may be considered one of the heaviest conclusions of V’s story. Sarzyński says, “We always knew we wanted to add an ending in which V gets the cure and survives. But the cost of it had to be huge.” A sequel,Project Orion, is in development, so it should be interesting to see where players go next.

's DLC,, is an essential add-on for any fan of the base game. While the unpredictable spy-thriller story is among the best to be developed by CD Projekt RED, Phantom Liberty pays homage to a number of CD Projekt RED's previous games and most popular franchises — none more so than their critically and commercially revered series based on Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy series of book, series. One particularly well-hidden reference, made in, to a notable character from franchise will undeniably be very bittersweet for long-time fans.
's DLC added a plethora of new armaments to the dangerous world of Night City. While many of these new bladed, blunt, and ballistic weapons are not especially special, some of the new Iconic weapons are absolutely fantastic, devastatingly deadly, and simply super cool. These new Iconic weapons, and those from the base game, represent the pinnacle of V's arsenal, and while they are all deadly, some are far cooler than others.

A new Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Easter egg has been discovered holding some vague clues as to the fates of The Witcher 3 stars Geralt and Yennefer.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty seriously impressed me with its RPG reactivity—the written-in bits that show CD Projekt Red anticipated and accounted for players' actions. The goofy rocket guy easter egg was certainly fun, but I'm thinking more in terms of life path-exclusive dialogue or main game events that get a nod in Phantom Liberty.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an absolutely massive game, and the recently released Phantom Liberty DLC has made it even bigger. Trying to account for every single thing that players can do in a game this big must have been pretty difficult for developer for CD Projekt Red, but that doesn't mean it was impossible. It seems like the studio is well aware of the stupidity that Cyberpunk 2077 players are capable of, and has called out someone who tried to ruin one of Phantom Liberty's more emotional endings. Be warned, we're heading to spoiler town.
