CD Projekt's patched-up Cyberpunk 2077 will be free to play on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this weekend — perfect for the Easter bank holiday.

Despite some early bumps in the road, Sonic the Hedgehog's live action movie adaptations have been a big success. A third film is due to arrive at the tail end of 2024, and if it's anything like its predecessors, it'll not only boom at the box office, but it'll also be another entertaining all-ages flick the whole family can enjoy. We have confidence it can achieve that after watching Knuckles, a TV mini-series spin-off that's just as fun as its big screen counterparts, if not more so.

Knuckles, Paramount Plus’ spinoff series of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, could have been a shameless IP cash-in. And the premiere isn’t far off! Following the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, we find Sonic and Miles “Tails” Prower living an idyllic life in Montana, and helping their new red echidna friend get the hang of Earth life. Without the budget for a big action spectacle, it’s mostly a kid sitcom with the Sonic gang — until it very much is not. In the subsequent five episodes, Knuckles (voiced again by Idris Elba) pairs up with dimwitted Green Hills sheriff Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) on a road trip to Nevada, where they both hope to find meaning in the world. The result is basically Tommy Boy for Sega buffs. It’s bananas.

As the weather (hopefully) turns nicer and the days get longer, it’s hard to think about being inside watching TV. Which is why it’s good that this week’s offerings are so easy to pop on at your leisure: Whether it’s the charms of Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives — based on a comic written by Neil Gaiman — or the hard-won pleasures of Shōgun’s final episode, or even the fighting spirit of We’re Here season 4 or Knuckles, there’s a lot to love this week.

After several rumors and theories, it has finally been confirmed that Keanu Reeves will be playing Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming Sonic 3 movie. 2024 has begun favorably for CD Projekt RED as the Polish game developer announced yesterday that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty sold over five million units across all platforms, following the previous benchmark of 4.3 million units from late November.

According to Toonado.com, Reservation Dogs alum Devery Jacobs has been tapped to join the voice cast of Disney+’s Season 2. Jacobs will officially be voicing the role of Kahhori, a young Native American woman who will be Marvel Studios’ first ever original superhero created for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like Jacobs, Kahhori is also part of the Mohawk people.

In a time when just about everything (other than Nintendo games) is coming out on PC alongside the Xbox and PlayStation (eventually), it’s become the great intersectional platform. CD Projekt Red continue to pay my rent by releasing regular patches for the once-borked, now-brill open world so I can write news about them. The latest, Update 2.1, is out now and adds new races, car chases, romantic smooches, and a working metro system.

The tale of CD Projekt Red and their futuristic cyberpunk-themed video game is likely well-known to you now. But it’s worth retelling again because of the release of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition, which is meant to be the “definitive version” of the title in every way that matters. If you don’t know, this “Ultimate Edition” brings together the main game that launched in 2020 and the expansion that was released a few months ago. Plus, all the updates that have helped improve the game over the years are included. They even made a special launch trailer bringing back Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba to narrate why you should “enjoy” Night City as you try to make your way through it.

Yesterday, we got our first look at Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and while Shadow's shoes took the initial spotlight, there's another Easter egg buried in that initial teaser image which has set the hearts of old-school Sonic fans ablaze.

The release of: Ultimate Edition next week will also see a new 2.1 update that will bring ”New and hotly-anticipated gameplay elements” for the great price of free, according to developer CD Projekt Red.

After literal decades of middling-to-terrible 3D Sonic games, it seemed like an actual honest-to-god miracle that the Sonic movie and its sequel were so successful. Both movies got largely positive reviews, were praised for the performances of Ben Schwartz as Sonic and Jim Carrey as Robotnik, and made $300 million and $400 million, respectively.

We found out last August that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 was set to hit theaters on December 20, 2024, but a new teaser gave us another glimpse at its newest star: Shadow the Hedgehog.

Whether you realize it or not, Sonic The Hedgehog is doing better than ever across virtually all media. Seriously, Sonic had been “hanging” by various threads over the years, but ever since 2020, things have started to come together. He’s had two well-received video games in both the 2D and 3D space, he has a hit show on Netflix that fans adore, and then, there are the live-action movies. These films helped set the tone for future video game adaptations and showed that they aren’t all bad when you put the effort in, and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will hopefully continue that.

Phantom Liberty, the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC that adds Idris Elba and some kind of rocket ship (I think? I haven't actually gotten to it yet), has done quite well for itself. That's according to a recent CD Projekt Red earnings call as well as the company's Twitter account, which was out yesterday boasting about 4.3 million copies of the DLC sold since launch. 

It's been over a year since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released and, as such, Shadow first appeared. He debuted in the post-credit scene, awakening from a red-tinged vat at a long-hidden black site. Now, we've got our first look at him in Sonic 3 where he will play a much bigger role.

Cyberpunk 2077's Idris Elba-starring expansion Phantom Liberty has sold 4.3 million copies since it launched, developer CD Projekt Red has confirmed.

Sonic the Hedgehog's Lego world has expanded quite a bit in 2023, and it's not done yet. Shadow the Hedgehog will be making his toy brick debut before the year is over, joining Tails and Amy who got their very own Minifigures and sets over the summer. The Shadow's Escape Lego set will be available to buy later this week, going on sale on December 1, 2023. However, some lucky Sonic fan has gotten their hands on it early, revealing a little more of what's to come after Lego Shadow makes his debut.

Big-name Hollywood actors playing important roles in games has become an increasingly common occurrence over the years, and CD Projekt RED has been one of the studios at the forefront of that, with Keanu Reeves starring in Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty, and Idris Elba in the latter. So is that something that we can expect to see more of from the Polish company in the future, especially with the inevitable Cyberpunk 2?

Baldur's Gate 3 recently swept the board at the Golden Joysticks. Neil Newbon, the voice behind Astarion, won Best Supporting Performer at the Golden Joysticks 2023—and during his acceptance speech, said: «when I found games I was broke, I was on my knees, I actually was actually very close to quitting the [acting] industry.» 

The Game Awards 2023 nominations are now out in the wild. Two of the biggest titles this year, Baldur's Gate 3 and the more recent Alan Wake II lead the pack with a whopping eight nods each, including Game of the Year. Despite being considered one of the best years for gaming, the show host and organiser Geoff Keighley is sticking to his rule of including only six names for the prestigious award. The remaining GOTY contenders include Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Resident Evil 4 remake, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The latter two were big hits during the first half of the year, with Zelda players showing off their mechanical creations in the lands of Hyrule, while the RE4 PC players messed around with sultry mods.

A live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda is officially in development, and the community has already picked their dream cast. While plenty of the choices are pretty out there, some of the picks for Zelda and Link are pretty compelling. 

The Golden Joystick Awards has opened shortlists in three of its most major categories: Ultimate Game of the Year (UGOTY), Best Supporting Performer, and Best Lead Performer—and you can vote on them right now. If you're wondering why I'm telling you this, it's because the Golden Joystick awards are run by PC Gamer's parent company, Future.

I don't think I'm spoiling too much off the jump by saying that Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty's endings are emotionally charged and more than a little bit devastating. It is also a natural gamer behavior to goof around in such moments, but as reported by VG247, CD Projekt Red seems to have anticipated players attempting to bork one such scene, inserting hidden dialogue to reflect their apparent death drive. Spoilers for Phantom Liberty ahead.

Sega has kept up a steady stream of new Sonic content over the last couple of years, and as many might be expecting, it seems like the company has plans to keep that going with plenty more for fans of the IP to look forward to in the coming year.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty includes the voice of a deceased actor from the base game, replicated using an AI algorithm by developer CD Projekt Red for the DLC campaign. The technology was used to recreate the sound of the late Miłogost Reczek, who voices delightfully named ripperdoc Viktor Vektor in the base game, with the permission from his family.

In Cyberpunk 2077, there are few problems that can’t be solved with either a bullet, a blade, or a colorfully worded variation of “F you.” In Phantom Liberty, the first and only expansion for the game, developer CD Projekt Red throws a curveball at the player in the form of an optional final mission that channels inspiration from one of the greatest survival-horror games of the eighth console generation.

Cyberpunk 2077 - now redeemed and somewhat rebuilt after the car crash that was its initial launch - is looking ahead at the even further future. CD Projekt Red have expressed that they have “no regrets” about switching from a third-person camera to a first-person one in the transition from The Witcher to Cyberpunk, however, for future games in Night City, the studio are still undecided.

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a live-action adaptation, developer CD Projekt Red has announced. The project is being developed in collaboration with Anonymous Content, the independent media company best known for producing Emmy-winning shows like True Detective and Mr. Robot. It's unclear if this take will be a feature-length film or a TV series, but the hunt for a screenwriter has commenced, with plans to tell a brand-new story set in the futuristic neon-lit world, where sex, body modifications, and political chatter are commonplace. The developer also stressed that the adaptation is at an ‘early developmental stage,' so it'll be a while before we receive any further updates.

This isn’t the developer’s first behemoth though, as the team previously released other banger RPGs like The Witcher 3 and its predecessors. With such an impressive list of launches up its sleeve, CD Projekt Red has revealed a whopping total of over 100,000,000 million games sold.

Having completed a three-year comeback that finally turned it into the game it should have been on launch day, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 is now headed for television screens. CD Projekt Red announced today that it is working with production company Anonymous Content on a "live-action project" that will tell a brand new story set in Night City.

The Cyberpunk franchise has been on a winning streak lately. From the acclaimed anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to the 2.0 update of 2077 and the release of Phantom Liberty, public perception of the series has largely turned around. Today, CD Projekt Red announced that they're taking the next step with the franchise – creating a live-action production.
