head writer A.C. Bradley took to social media to clarify some details about Season 2’s fifth episode, “What If…Captain Carter Fought the Hydra Stomper?”
One of the things that Bradley explained about the Captain Carter-centered episode was Hope van Dyne/ Wasp’s appearance at the Battle of New York. She revealed that Hope was able to become the Wasp much earlier than anticipated due to her parents’ new role at SHIELD.
“Since Captain Carter — a woman — ended WW2, the feminist movement occurred immediately after the war,” Bradley wrote on X. “This had a ripple effect across society leading to more female SHIELD agents, heroes, & women in positions of authority.
She continued, “Since Peggy Carter wasn’t around to found SHIELD, that responsibility fell to Hope’s parents, Hank and Janet, and also Bucky, and his good friend, Howard Stark. All this lead to Hope taking on the Wasp mantle earlier.”
What If…? hails from Bradley and director Bryan Andrews, who are both serving as executive producers. While Season 1 covered events from the Infinity Saga, Season 2 is expected to adapt stories and feature characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4.
The series is led by Jeffrey Wright as the voice of The Watcher. Season 2 will also feature the voices of returning MCU stars, including Hayley Atwell, Cate Blanchett, Jon Favreau, Elizabeth Olsen, Josh Brolin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kat Dennings, Michael Douglas, Idris Elba, Karen Gillan, Seth Green, Frank Grillo, Jeff Goldblum, Laurence Fishburne, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and more.
