A new ride for the upcoming Donkey Kong-themed section of Universal Studios Japan's Super Nintendo World will give parkgoers a very hands-on and thrilling series throwback, according to reports. The attraction apparently uses a simple yet clever design to provide this experience.

Reports are beginning to surface that an open-world Donkey Kong video game was once planned for the Nintendo Switch, but the project was scrapped. A new hour-long video claims that the Donkey Kong game would have been headed up by then-Activision subsidiary Vicarious Visions, now known as Blizzard Albany.

Universal Studios Japan announced that the opening of Super Nintendo World's upcoming Donkey Kong Country-themed expansion has been delayed. Nintendo officially opened the theme park in 2021, recreating the experience of the Super Mario Bros. video games in real-life. A few years later, Universal Studios announced a new Donkey Kong Country-themed expansion, with it being the second Nintendo IP to be represented at the park.

A new video gives a brief new look at Super Nintendo World's upcoming Donkey Kong Country-themed expansion. The theme park first opened as a part of Universal Studios Japan, first in 2020 as a soft opening and later a grand opening in 2021. The Super Nintendo World theme park has a number of Super Mario Bros. related items and attractions, including a restaurant, rides, and even photo opportunities with characters like Princess Peach. Shortly after the park's grand opening in Japan, Nintendo announced an expansion would be coming to the park that will open later in 2024.

When you look at a completed game, specifically one that isn’t a remake or a remaster, it’s a marvel to see how it all came together. Furthermore, if it’s a good game, you wonder at times about the various steps and ideas that went into each title and how it turned out the way it did. That’s why hearing from the development teams about their “processes” can be so much fun. In the case of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, you’d think that this game had a pretty simple and streamlined procedure for coming up with its enemies. However, you’d be wrong on that fact.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the new expanded remake of the GBA retro puzzle-platformer, is out now on the Nintendo Switch and the game has plenty of post-game content to unlock and play through. While you can see the credits after playing through the game’s 8 worlds once, there are also a full slate of “Plus” levels, particularly tough “Extra” levels, and even a secret extra boss fight to tackle. The original GBA title was successful in its day, and it spawned a mini-franchise that went several titles deep. But with this remake, Nintendo has tried to go bigger with it. So, how did they do?

Nintendo will reveal the successor to its popular Switch handheld, the Switch 2, in March 2024, if rumors are to be believed. The Japanese gaming giant's partners are already making moves in connection to the upcoming reveal, according to insider sources.

It’s now been five years since Nintendo announced that development of Metroid Prime 4 was being rebooted and handed off to a new steward, Metroid Prime series creators Retro Studios. It’s that time of year again! With January winding down, Nintendo fans await confirmation that The Big N is getting ready to present its first Nintendo Direct of the year! Ever since these started several years back, fans have been pumped for when the next one will arrive and what will be shown. This particular Direct will be important because it’s not just the first event of the year for Nintendo but because it’s presumably the last “full year” of Switch content. There are many classic rivalries in the video game world, but the first is arguably the rivalry between Mario and Donkey Kong. Yes, Mario was known as “Jumpman” at the time, but we all know it was Mario. These two have been battling it out for decades in one form or another, and during the Game Boy Advanced days, Nintendo brought that to life in a new format via the Mario Vs Donkey Kong series. The titles had platforming and puzzle mechanics mixed together, and it worked rather well. After all, it did have several entries. Fast forward to 2024, and the remake of the original title is only a few weeks away from dropping on the Nintendo Switch.

The legendary GBA Mario vs. Donkey Kong series was rooted in the puzzle-platforming of the original Donkey Kong games while adding a lot more puzzling to the mix. Logic puzzles were the name of the game there and the series began on the GBA and continued on to the DS and then 3DS as well. The original GBA classic hasn’t received a ton of love since tis original release, but used a simple idea of gathering a key alongside small Mario figurines as a way to bring more original Donkey Kong-style action to the world.

Like the previous titles, Mario must collect mini Mario robots and defeat Donkey Kong. The game will also feature local co-op.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is a series of spinoff games that feature both the iconic Mario and Donkey Kong characters. In this title series Mario is pinned against Donkey Kong with the first installment released all the way back in 2004 for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. It looks like we’ll get a remake of sorts for that very first title where Mario is pinned against Donkey Kong.

As always, there’s speculation and anticipation over the date for the next Nintendo Direct. Rumors indicate it’s happening in September, with Universo Nintendo hearing that it will be between September 11th to 15th. However, insider NateTheHate2 has a more specific date – September 14th, which is tomorrow.

Nintendo tends to have Direct presentations in September every year, and sure enough, it’s looking like that’s going to be the case in 2023 as well, if multiple recent leaks are to be believed. Allegedly, a Direct presentation is scheduled for sometime next week, and potential details on announcements that could be made as part of the showcase are seemingly emerging as well.

Nintendo already has a pretty strong holiday season lined up with the likes of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Super Mario RPG remake on the way, but it seems more news may be coming down the ol’ warp pipe. The company has traditionally held a substantial Nintendo Direct in September, doing so for four of the last five years. Well, if rumors are to be believed, the same will happen this year. As we’ve already reported, longtime Nintendo leaker NatetheHate has hinted a Direct is coming “soon-ish,” and website Universo Nintendo has gone further, suggesting we’ll see something next week between September 11 and September 15. Other insiders have also made hints something is on the way.

A reliable Nintendo insider has teased that September's rumoured Nintendo Direct will feature reveals for F-Zero and Donkey Kong, which likely means new games.
