When many heard Mortal Kombat 1 might be a reboot/resetting of the timeline, gamers weren’t sure how it would play out. The 9th mainline entry full-on rebooted everything to try and streamline events while creating new possibilities. But with the upcoming title, NetherRealm Studios took a different approach. Instead of “speeding through past titles” to create a new future, they gave Liu Kang the power of a god and the ability to manipulate time and destiny. Through this, he’s crafted a world that he believes to be “perfect” and offered new chances at life and happiness to those who didn’t have it before.

Mortal Kombat 1’s next Kameo fighter is Mavado, the high-ranking commander of the ancient Red Dragon clan, and his release date has just been revealed. While Mortal Kombat 1’s main roster consists of revamped versions of classic characters in a brand-new timeline, the secondary Kameo fighter line-up contains the time-displaced original versions of combatants from across the old Mortal Kombat games. These older incarnations can be summoned to help the player during matches, adding new combos and strategies to Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay.

Earlier this month, dataminers that managed to get their hands on Mortal Kombat 1 during the early access period seemed to uncover proof of future DLC characters that are going to be added in the near future. Intros were found for classic characters such as Cassie Cage, Jade, and Noob Saibot, but things got a little bit interesting after an intro for classic slasher villain Ghostface was discovered, as well as references to the character in dialogue alongside mentions of a cloak and mask.

Mortal Kombat 1 is out now, but as is traditional for the franchise, launch is just the beginning, with plenty of content still in the pipeline for the fighting franchise’s reboot. Series co-creator, director, and NetherRealm Studios boss Ed Boon has issued a reminder for that, recently taking to Twitter and saying, “We look forward to sharing what’s koming next with a loong list of Fighters, Kameos, and game features to come!” An accolades trailer is also shared along with Boon’s tweet to highlight some of the positive critical reception the game has enjoyed.
