Mortal Kombat 1’s next Kameo fighter is Mavado, the high-ranking commander of the ancient Red Dragon clan, and his release date has just been revealed. While Mortal Kombat 1’s main roster consists of revamped versions of classic characters in a brand-new timeline, the secondary Kameo fighter line-up contains the time-displaced original versions of combatants from across the old Mortal Kombat games. These older incarnations can be summoned to help the player during matches, adding new combos and strategies to Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay.
15 Kameo fighters were included in the base Mortal Kombat 1, and NetherRelam has been adding even more as part of the ongoing Kombat Pack 1 DLC. So far, these new additions consist of Tremor, Khameleon, and Janet Cage – an alternate timeline, female version of longtime Mortal Kombat leading man Johnny Cage. There has been plenty of speculation about who would be the next Mortal Kombat 1 DLC Kameo, until it was revealed that it would be Mavado during the recent Ermac gameplay trailer.
A post on the official Mortal Kombat 1 Twitter page revealed that Mavado will be added to the game on May 7. In the original Mortal Kombat timeline, Mavado is a leading member of the Red Dragon crime syndicate. He was first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, where his efforts to eliminate the renegade Black Dragon clan brought him into a brief partnership with Shang Tsung. Mavado would return in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, where he fought alongside Shinnok and the Forces of Darkness in the final battle against the heroes of the old Mortal Kombat timeline.
Mavado never appeared in NetherRealm’s rebooted Mortal Kombat trilogy, though he was featured in the tie-in prequel comics for 2015’s Mortal Kombat 10. There, he was still a leader among the Red Dragon clan on the hunt for the Black Dragons, though he was ultimately killed by Cassie Cage. He has yet to appear in the rebooted Mortal Kombat 1 timeline, as the Red Dragon clan hasn't been mentioned at all in MK 1 except as the name of a Liu Kang/Kano Titan variant players could fight in the climax of the story campaign.
The original timeline version of Mavado is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 as the next DLC Kameo fighter, though, and he is to be released on May 7. This isn’t the only new content Mortal Kombat 1 fans are excited about, as The Boys villain Homelander will join the main roster as a guest fighter later this spring.
The 12th mainline entry in Warner Bros' franchise, Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be a soft reboot. Along with staples like a single-player campaign and online multiplayer, the 2023 game will also introduce Kameo Fighters.

This is done through the Joy-Con controller, which can be attached to the Switch’s included to be used as a handheld, connected to a special holder to emulate a traditional controller, or held as two separate pieces for motion control gameplay.
