Nintendo recently revealed its updated sales numbers for the Switch console, not too long after the company acknowledged its eventual follow-up. Ever since hitting the market in early 2017, the Nintendo Switch has been a global sales juggernaut, bolstered by chart-topping exclusives like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and last year’s The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has also helped sell more Nintendo Switch consoles in countries like Mexico and South America after landing in theaters in 2023.

A newly filed patent highlights an interesting detail about how the Nintendo Switch charges its three controller components to ensure that they all have an equal amount of power. The Nintendo Switch is truly unique among modern gaming hardware in how it combines the power of a traditional console with the portability of Nintendo’s old handhelds. This is done through the Joy-Con controller, which can be attached to the Switch’s included to be used as a handheld, connected to a special holder to emulate a traditional controller, or held as two separate pieces for motion control gameplay.

Some Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fans have started pointing out that Peter Parker is missing as an AI companion in combat when the player is controlling Miles Morales. Spider-Man 2 gives gamers two crime-fighting Spider-heroes for the price of one, with Peter returning from the first game and Miles now a fully-fledged web-slinger following his starring role in the 2020 spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

The previously hinted-at LEGO Star Wars minifigure of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor protagonist Cal Kestis has finally been confirmed as part of an upcoming Imperial Star Destroyer set. While the popular LEGO Star Wars line has primarily focused on the Star Wars movies and shows, there have been sets and minifigures based on the numerous video games over the years. In addition to collectible versions of famous Star Wars gaming characters like Starkiller and Darth Malek, the lovable BD-1 from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had a model based on it back in 2022.

Fortnite has a wave of new Star Wars content planned across all of its connected game modes, with new missions and cosmetics being released in time for this year’s May the Fourth celebration. Fortnite and Star Wars first crossed over to promote Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker back in 2019, with the evil Emperor Palpatine announcing his resurrection in an in-game message. The long-delayed Star Wars: Hunters finally has a new release date. Back in 2021, Lucasfilm Games and developer Zynga announced Star Wars: Hunters, a squad-based arena shooter set after the fall of the Galactic Empire at the end of the original Star Wars movie trilogy. Players can choose from characters like Rieve, a dark-side-empowered warrior, a lightsaber-wielding droid called J-3DI, and even Utooni, a pair of junk-scavenging Jawas stacked together. Each of these characters has their own unique abilities, which will come in handy during frantic battles across several classic Star Wars locations.

A new Guinness World Record was set during a recent Yu-Gi-Oh card game tournament in Tokyo, Japan. While the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga wasn’t always centered around the Duel Monsters card game, it has become one of the most recognizable elements of the franchise. The Nintendo DS was first released in 2004 as the successor to the Nintendo Game Boy Advance and evolved the Big N's classic handheld formula by including a second touchscreen that players could use for hit titles like The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Pokemon Black and White. Mortal Kombat 1’s next Kameo fighter is Mavado, the high-ranking commander of the ancient Red Dragon clan, and his release date has just been revealed. While Mortal Kombat 1’s main roster consists of revamped versions of classic characters in a brand-new timeline, the secondary Kameo fighter line-up contains the time-displaced original versions of combatants from across the old Mortal Kombat games. These older incarnations can be summoned to help the player during matches, adding new combos and strategies to Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay.

Fans finally have their first look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’sCal Kestis as a LEGO Star Wars minifigure. The first LEGO Star Wars building sets were released in 1999 to promote Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, and for the past 25 years the Galaxy Far, Far Away has been one of LEGO’s most popular settings. About 928 LEGO Star Wars sets have been released as of April 2024, and there have been countless tie-in animated movies and Traveller’s Tales-developed LEGO Star Wars video games to go with them.

Users looking to return a game on Steam may have a slightly more difficult time, as Valve recently updated the service’s refund policy to close a popular loophole involving “advanced access” titles. Steam is one of the biggest digital game retailers, offering customers a massive selection of PC titles that run the gamut from the latest triple-A releases to smaller indie fare. Of course, not everyone is going to be happy with their purchases, and Steam allows users to refund their games within 14 days of buying them, as long as they have only been played for less than two hours.
