An Overwatch 2 player claims they were banned from Quick Play for over three and a half years. Unless this ban is lifted prematurely, this unfortunate Overwatch 2 fan won’t be able to queue into this casual game mode until late September 2027.
Viewer is an Overwatch 2 player and critic known for their controversial takes and scathing commentary of the game. Though not a professional Overwatch 2 player or content creator, they still have a large following of over 12,600 fans on Twitter alone.
However, this did not prevent Viewer from catching what appeared to be a huge ban on Overwatch 2. On February 6, they shared an image of their Overwatch 2 client that said they were banned from Quick Play for 1326 days. Unless this ban were to be repealed, that means Viewer would not be able to use Quick Play, including Deathmatch and events like Overwatch 2's Quick Play: Hacked, until September 24, 2027 – over three and a half years from now.
Viewer did not share exactly what caused this massive Quick Play ban, but it luckily seems not to have affected their ability to play in Competitive, which is getting a massive overhaul in Overwatch 2: Season 9. It is also possible the image was fabricated, and that Viewer’s Quick Play ban is much shorter, if it exists at all. Either way, with nearly 200 comments, 600 reposts, and 10,000 likes, it is clear Viewer’s fellow fans got a kick out of the suspension.
Assuming the ban is indeed real, and that Overwatch 2 releases new seasons and heroes at the same cadence it has been, the game will be a lot different by the end of the suspension. Over 40 months will have passed, meaning Overwatch 2 will likely be in Season 30 or 31 by September 2027. Approximately 11 new heroes will likely have been added by then as well, meaning characters like Venture, Space Ranger, and the unnamed Overwatch 2 tank hero will be old news by that point, putting into perspective just how long this ban is.
Though a ban of over three years may sound extreme, it is well within Blizzard’s wheelhouse to do so. Over the last few months, World of Warcraft and Hearthstone each banned around 200,000 accounts for botting and other infractions in some of the biggest suspension waves in its history. Overwatch 2 fans should be mindful of what they say to other players and never leave matches early, or else they might find themselves with a ban as well.
