Overwatch 2 Teases Season 10 Competitive Play Changes

Overwatch 2 just teased some more updates coming to Competitive Play in Season 10. The ranked PvP mode may have just received some huge updates in Season 9, but Overwatch 2 already has plans to make more improvements in the near future.
Season 9, titled Champions, introduced a massive overhaul to Competitive Play in Overwatch 2. All fans found their Competitive ranks reset, with each player’s rank now updating after every match with a detailed view of how and why it changed. The game also added a new Champion rank above Grandmaster and introduced Jade weapons as an unlockable reward for hardcore gamers who wish to show off their prowess.
However, it seems like even more changes are coming to Competitive Play in Overwatch 2 soon. In a recent Director’s Take blog by Overwatch 2, game director Aaron Keller teased some of these changes fans can look forward to later in Season 9 and 10. Overwatch 2 is removing grouping restrictions based on skill rank, allowing all players to team up in Competitive Play. To compensate, wide groups – those with a large range in skill among their team – will only face other wide groups, while narrow groups will strictly be pitted against other narrow groups. Fans can also look forward to new features on the Competitive Progress screen, including Match History and a Scorecard, plus role-specific titles, a scoreboard rank range, and a small set of Top 500 improvements in the future.
According to Keller, the Season 9 Competitive changes have been hugely popular. So far, Competitive Play comprises 45% of current total gameplay hours, up from the 35% it had before Season 9. This has placed Competitive as more popular than Quick Play for the first time in Overwatch 2 – but Keller clarified it was not that fewer people were playing Quick Play, but that more were trying out Competitive Play in Overwatch 2 in Season 9.
These aren’t the only changes Overwatch 2 teased in this Director’s Take. Overwatch 2 is getting faster bots with shorter game times in Push, as well as a speed boost in Flashpoint and during defender setup on Hybrid and Escort. Players can expect these changes, along with the Competitive improvements, throughout the rest of Season 9 and into Season 10.
Overwatch 2 is Blizzard's free-to-play team-based first-person shooter. The title features some new heroes like Junker Queen and Sojourn, as well as returning favorites.
