No Man's Sky's Omega Update Massively Overhauls Expeditions

When you’re making video games as a full-time job, you’re going to find yourself trying to push yourself to do new things whenever possible, and the team over at Naughty Dog has been doing that for a long time. They started by creating the icon we know as Crash Bandicoot, then made the duo of Jak & Daxter, then shifted to telling the tale of Nathan Drake, and finally, made the compelling stories featuring Joel & Ellie. Neil Druckmann has been there for much of that, and while he’s said he doesn’t know how many more big games he has “in him,” he’s still working on things right now.

No Man's Sky has received yet another huge update today, 15th February 2024, and it's good news for basically everyone. The Omega update is primarily concerned with Expeditions, the game's community-focused mini campaigns that blend together all its various features. A whole new Expedition, also titled Omega, is star of the show, and best of all, it'll be completely free to play — whether you own No Man's Sky or not.

No Man's Sky has recently seen yet another surge in popularity following its Omega update, which adds a plethora of new features as well as a limited-time community expedition event that can even be played for free over the next few days by those who don't own the game.

No Man's Sky is free till Monday as it celebrates the launch of its Omega Expedition update, bringing quality-of-life tweaks, new content, and a completely revamped Atlas questline.

Early this year, Turn 10 promised to improve Forza Motorsport in three key areas, one of which was its controversial car progression system. Less than a month later, the car progression revamp was outlined, but the studio also noted that it wouldn’t be released until Update 6 hits.

The newest No Man’s Sky update is called Omega, and it’s designed to bring lapsed players back into the game. Omega is accompanied by a free weekend, which runs from Feb. 15 until Feb. 19.

Hello Games is once again back with a massive No Man's Sky update called OMEGA. The headline feature is the addition of the titular Expedition (due to run for four weeks), which the studio said has been created from scratch to be the ideal introduction to newcomers. The over 25 free updates released to date might feel overwhelming from the outside, but this Expedition will guide new users through the basics of base building, trading, space combat, lore, and more, thanks to a series of milestones and quick missions. At the same time, the OMEGA Expedition features some of the best rewards available through Expeditions, such as a particularly cool starship.

Following a series of vague teases over the past week, No Man's Sky has received its new Omega update which brings overhauled gameplay mechanics, ownable pirate freighters, new cosmetics, and more to the unfathomably vast space exploration game. Though countless free updates to No Man's Sky over the years have more than made good on the big promises originally made for the game while also bringing it to many new platforms, this latest update introduces a new expedition which can be played for free by players who don't own the game.
