An old Nintendo patent from 20 years ago has just surfaced, showing what appears to be an N64 console with a DVD drive. The Nintendo 64 was a revolutionary system for its time, featuring groundbreaking 3D graphics that provided an additional sense of immersion to classic Nintendo games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. However, the N64 still used cartridges for its software instead of making the jump to optical disks, a decision that led to Square Enix partnering with Sony to release Final Fantasy 7 as a PlayStation exclusive due to that console’s superior CD technology.
NieR: Automata Has Sold Over 8 Million Units in 7 Years

Today is the seventh anniversary of the launch of NieR: Automata in Japan, so PlatinumGames took some time to celebrate the occasion with a blog post. The studio also revealed that the game has now surpassed eight million units sold to date.
Previous sales milestones include five million units in three and a half years and 7.5 million copies as of last April. NieR: Automata is by far the most successful game released by PlatinumGames to date. It also received widespread critical acclaim, with Wccftech's Kai Tatsumoto rating it 9.2/10 in the launch review:

Fans are still very much in love with it, as evidenced by the anime adaptation and the ongoing worldwide orchestral tour. However, a proper sequel still hasn't materialized. Last we heard from Square Enix producer Yosuke Saito, another franchise entry featuring director Yoko Taro will eventually be made. Still, it won't be any time soon, as both Saito and Taro are working on another project that should be revealed at some point in 2024.
At least fans got Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., a remaster of the first installment in the series, three years ago. Meanwhile, NieR: Automata is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
