Q4 2023 was strong for Intel as the chipmaker shipped 50 million CPUs in the desktop & notebook space, far exceeding AMD & Apple.
The latest statistics are reported by Canalys who presented their latest infographic and report on the Q4 2023 Global PC (Notebook & Desktop) CPU market. Some interesting stats besides the CPU shipments and revenue include the popular PC segments across each region. It is reported that the desktop PC market is vibrant in APAC (Asia Pacific) and EMEA (Europe & Middle East / Africa), the PC notebook segment is strong in the Chinese & Latin America region while North American audiences are more inclined towards the tablet market.
Coming to the total PC shipment units and annual growth by CPU vendors chart, Intel makes up the lion's share here with 50 million CPU units shipped during the previous year which marks a growth of 3%. AMD on the other hand comes in second with 8 million units shipped (-1% YoY) & Apple saw 6 million units shipped (-4% YoY). The research firm highlights that Intel retains a 78% market share hold with AMD's share at 13%.
In terms of revenue, Intel managed to increase its PC CPU shipments revenue by 2% to 41 Billion followed by Apple with an 8 Billion revenue (+8% YoY) and AMD's 5 Billion in revenue (+6% YoY). It also covers other players such as MediaTek, Qualcomm, and ARM which have yet to reach the likes of the big three but Qualcomm is expected to make a big entrance in the PC market this year with its Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus chips.
Breaking down the shipments per PC Vendor, for Intel, Lenovo was the top vendor with 25% of total shipments followed by HP at 23%, Dell at 19%, ACER at 7%, and ASUS at 6%. For AMD's side, Lenovo once again was the biggest PC vendor with a 40% share for total shipments followed by HP at 29%, ASUS at 14%, and ACER at 6%. The revenue split is similar to the total shipments. The PC Notebook segment remains the most popular choice for CPUs with a share of almost 69% was reported in Jon Peddie Research's report. Desktops were reported to account for 31% share during Q4 2023.
Statistics from PassMark also show that Intel is gaining market share across all segments whether that be desktops, laptops, or servers.
