LEGO 2K Drive Update 5 is now available for download across all platforms. This release expands Visual Concepts' arcade racer with quite a few additions, including a new biome, game modes, and a variety of improvements spanning nearly every aspect of LEGO 2K Drive.
Originally launched in May 2023, LEGO 2K Drive debuted as the first title from a multi-game partnership that 2K and the Danish toy maker had agreed to pursue over the coming years. Much like the 2001 classic LEGO Racers 2, 2K's title delivers a sizable open world filled with various racing events and collectibles. Although many critics praised its level design and production values, the game launched to mixed feedback, with its live-service elements being a common complaint among reviewers.
That did not dissuade Visual Concepts from churning out regular content updates for LEGO 2K Drive, with the latest such release reaching PC and consoles in mid-March, two months ahead of the racer's first anniversary. Dubbed Update 5, the highlight of this latest version of the game is the Stargaze Summit, a new biome that can now be found in Bricklandia. This snowy location features seven races, three challenges, and nine On-The-Go events. Aside from the obligatory XPs, the rewards for clearing that content are some novel LEGO 2K Drive vehicles, drivers, and Special Flairs, a new category of items that offer gameplay benefits.
The patch introduces nine Special Flairs in total, all of which can be attached to vehicles in order to extend their functionality. Some of those offer alternate camera angles and collectible detectors that give out cues when in proximity of something worth picking up. Others provide things like flamethrowers, speed boosts, and enhanced jetpack power-ups, thus extending LEGO 2K Drive's selection of gameplay features and vehicle customizability.
Players wanting to access Stargaze Summit will first need to find a new NPC in Prospecto Valley, according to the LEGO 2K Drive Update 5 patch notes. Another pair of novelties introduced in this release are two self-explanatory game modes, Time Trial and Goal Karts Hockey. The latter supports both local split-screen for two players and online multiplayer for two teams of three.
Expanded leaderboards are also part of the package, as is the newly added ability to upload modified vehicles to the Creators Hub. Finally, the changelog that Visual Concepts attached to the latest update lists four specific stability improvements and 18 bug fixes. This massive content influx cements LEGO 2K Drive's reputation as one of the hardest LEGO games to 100% complete.
