Hogwarts Legacy Has Sold Over 24 Million Units

The open-world action RPG is set in the world made famous by, yet these events take place a century before Harry's adventures and feature a fantastic journey into history. Experiencing what it would be like to be a student at the magical school and be sorted into one of the four houses of Hogwarts has given players a chance to experiment with roleplaying and led to surprising results.

The current generation of console gaming has entered its fourth year, and by and large, it’s maintained impressive momentum so far, especially where hardware sales are concerned.

The juggernauts that are Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 just refuse to stop selling. Hogwarts Legacy has now sold 24 million copies since its release in February last year, publisher Warner Bros. has said.

Discovery has for growth in the gaming space. The company values Harry Potter (the IP behind Hogwarts Legacy), Mortal Kombat (which has sold three million units since its debut last September), DC, and Game of Thrones franchises $1 billion each for their gaming potential, and it plans to capitalize on them all.

After announcing that NetheRealm’s Mortal Kombat 1 nearly reached three million units sold last November, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed to Variety that it’s now reached that figure. The sequel launched in September 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

New content is coming to in 2024, and a previously platform-specific quest will be made widely available over a year after the game's initial launch. achieved the rare feat of surpassing as 2023's best-selling game in the United States, finally delivering on many's long-held desire of an expansive open-world game set in the universe. But beyond that, it looks like the developers have something else planned for players to enjoy.

They do not account for sales on the Microsoft Store via PC/Xbox, nor do they account for Game Pass player numbers.

Hogwarts Legacy continued its impressive run as PlayStation announced it was the platform's most downloaded PS5 game in the United States and Canada during 2023. Hogwarts Legacy outperformed other heavyweights like Call of Duty, Spider-Man, Madden, and more.
