Man, y'all really like mechs. The long-awaited Helldivers 2 mechs hit the game earlier today following the liberation of planet Tien Kwan, and it seems the community's enthusiasm has outpaced developer expectations and server limitations once again.

Helldivers 2 has passed the Steam concurrent player count for Starfield and Destiny 2 and is easily Sony's best-performing game on Steam.
Earlier this month we reported that the sci-fi cooperative shooter easily surpassed the launch of God of War on Steam. Last week, Arrowhead CEO and Helldivers 2 Creative Director Johan Pilestedt revealed that the game had sold around 1 million copies with a roughly equal share between PS5 and PC units.
Fast forward one week, and Arrowhead's game keeps impressing with Concurrent Players on Steam now having peaked at nearly 334.000 (333.827). Not only is it an impressive number on its own, but this means that the game also managed to beat peak concurrent players for Microsoft's Starfield and the now Sony-owned Destiny 2 (via Benji-Sales). Another impressive stat is that Helldivers 2 actually has a higher peak player count than every other PlayStation game on PC combined. It will be interesting to see how player stats for Arrowhead's game will evolve, but we're pretty sure that the success of the game will be watched by the higher-ups at Sony.
Despite being a great success for Sony and Arrowhead, the game does keep suffering from server and stability issues. In order to improve the stability of the game, Arrowhead has now decided (via Wario64 on X) to cap the total number of players at roughly 450k. "Earlier today, we had server-related issues with a concurrent player spike", the team wrote on the official Helldivers 2 Discord. "This led to some mission payouts failing, some players being kicked to their ships, or being logged out".
Arrowhead added, "Therefore we've had to cap out concurrent players to around 450.000 to further improve server stability."
Helldivers 2 is available globally now for PC and PlayStation 5. Want to know if you'll be able to join the fight on PC? Be sure to check out these 'quite demanding' PC requirements here.

Following its release on February 8, took the world by storm and achieved an unimaginable gaming feat. The sequel to the 2015 game delivered a cooperative experience like none other in the gaming space, encouraging an unprecedented amount of teamwork and collaboration. Although playing solo is an option in, it requires a very specific build and presents a much greater challenge than diving in with other players.
Though some of the weapons in may be considered trash, they may not be as bad as they seem at face value. As the game has increased its player base, the weapons available to Helldivers have been placed into a community hierarchy. Though some guns may be marginally better than others, every weapon has its strengths and is viable for any mission. This flexibility, which transfers to most aspects of, has helped propel the game to success along with its chaotically fun gameplay.
A Helldivers 2 datamine might have hinted at some interesting new content coming to Arrowhead's hit title, including Meteors.
’s developer Arrowhead Game Studios recently issued statements about scam Steam listings impersonating the popular game. The Sony-published third-person shooter launched simultaneously on PS5 and PC via Steam last month. However, at least three fraudulent store pages recently appeared on Valve’s platform.
As players fight tooth and nail to reclaim planets overrun by Terminids and Automatons, developer Arrowhead reveals that the intergalactic war is managed by only a single person. While the core loop involves running around alien planets and gunning down various enemies, there's a much larger scale meta-game at play that sees the community fighting to take control of several endangered planets. Given that opposing factions seemingly respond to player-led pushes, many assumed it was simply an automatic difficulty setting to make the experience more challenging.
The developer of Helldivers 2 has declared the weekend just gone a success, insisting the game’s servers handled all players “without problem”.
Helldivers 2's lead developer Johan Pilestedt seems open to a crossover with Destiny, saying that it would "make sense" for the setting. He even tagged Bungie in his comment, perhaps in a bid to see if the studio would be open to arranging some kind of collaboration for the two games.
Playing is going to get much easier with a new update added by Arrowhead Game Studios. The third-person shooter has been a success since its release earlier in February, mostly due to its cooperative, challenging, and occasionally chaotic multiplayer. Given the game’s popularity, however, there have been some issues and errors with , especially when it comes to logging in and waiting in line. The major problems concerning those, however, are starting to be addressed, which should make players’ access to the title a whole lot easier.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt has taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Helldivers 2 now has a higher server cap for concurrent players. While the studio still expects the game to hit that server cap, especially over the weekend, this hopefully means that more players will be able to play and wait times for logging into Helldivers 2 will be more bearable.
As Helldivers 2 continues to be struggling with its own success, suffering wildly overloaded servers that make it sometimes tricky to even log in, a new patch today has added a feature to help alleviate the pressure. Having previously capped the number of players to 450,000, developers Arrowhead have now added an auto-kick to stop people hogging those precious slots while not playing. After 15 minutes, AFK players will now get booted. It's clearly not the big fix needed but hopefully fresh duct tape will help hold the co-op shooter together until more permanent solutions arrive.
[UPDATE] The official Dead Island 2 Twitter account has confirmed the news.
