Helldivers 2 has limited player counts to stop server crashes

Helldivers 2 ran into more server trouble that is preventing some players from logging into the hit multiplayer shooter as of early March. The ongoing issues appear to be related to the latest Helldivers 2 update that recently went live.

The war continues in co-op sci-fi shooter Helldivers 2, and players have been informed that they must successfully defend a key planet in order to get their hands on new mechs. 

Helldivers 2 continues to be a colossal success, as shown by the player count and potential sales numbers, and we’ll be taking a look at how many people are playing to make sense of the game’s meteoric rise.

A new leak has allegedly revealed the name of the rumored Fall Guys-inspired Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, which is said to be titled Sonic Toys Party. On top of that, this leak has supposedly stated that the game will support up to 32 players in its multiplayer mode. This spin-off is likely to be a part of the franchise's momentum for 2024, as Sega has previously expressed interest in developing Sonic titles exclusively for mobile devices.

The concurrent player count for the Steam version of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has dropped so much since launch that it’s now frequently lower than that of Gotham Knights.

Ubisoft has said the recently released Skull and Bones has achieved “record player engagement” since launch, although it has yet to announce how many copies it’s sold or how many players it has.

Xbox Game Studios has flaunted extraordinary lifetime player numbers for some of its most successful first-party games, including Forza Horizon 5, Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves, and more. Xbox's first-party portfolio is set to grow even larger this year, with several major titles planning to release, like Ninja Theory's Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 in May, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed in the fall.

After some pretty hefty wait times and server issues, Helldivers 2 CEO Johan Pilestedt finally confirms that concurrent player counts have been increased.

Even with ongoing login and server capacity issues, Helldivers 2 continues to grow, this time passing a new concurrent player total and overtaking the immensely popular shooter, Counter Strike 2. The immediate success of Helldivers 2 has been both a blessing and a curse for Arrowhead Game Studios, who has struggled to adapt to the massive player numbers attempting to log in. While the studio and team are happy to see the game become a major success, becoming the most concurrently played Sony published game on Steam, the backend issues have continued to hold the experience back.
