Genshin Impact is currently being review-bombed in China, on top of suffering a massive loss of social media followers. Its ongoing difficulties appear to be related to HoYoverse's recent livestream announcing the Genshin Impact 4.4 Banners and some additional events.
The fandom of the hit gacha game has never shied away from voicing its displeasure about content that it perceives as inadequate in any way. The RPG's commemorative events were among the most frequent targets of fan backlash, with the third-anniversary event drawing particular ire from Genshin Impact fans back in September 2023.
The latest wave of such player activism was seemingly prompted by HoYoverse's 4.4 broadcast, which saw the developer announce players would receive a mere trio of Genshin Impact Intertwined Fates—a type of premium currency used for rolling event Banner characters and weapons—as part of the upcoming Latern Rite festival event. In response to those lackluster rewards, the fandom swarmed the game's BiliBili download page with 1-star reviews, in addition to unfollowing its official Douyin page en masse.
As first noted by Twitter user GenshinUpdate, the RPG's Douyin account went from having 9.3 million followers on January 21 to 8.7 million the following day, after the 4.4 broadcast. While this isn't the first time that the Genshin Impact fandom criticized the annual Lantern Rite freebies, which are given away as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations, it would appear that this year's rewards are being perceived as particularly lackluster relative to the recent Honkai: Star Rail promos. As a reminder, HoYoverse's newest game is currently giving away a 5-star character to anyone who logs in and completes its very first mission right now.
The ongoing backlash has also affected the Chinese social media accounts of Heytea, KFC, and PizzaHut, among other frequent Genshin Impact partners, which many disgruntled fans are now unfollowing, as originally noted by Twitter user hxg_diluc. Whether this wave of social media activism manages to elicit any changes from HoYoverse remains to be seen. But the chances of that happening are well within the realm of possibility. After all, the Chinese developer has a long track record of beefing up Genshin Impact event rewards due to fan backlash.
Given that state of affairs, it's not surprising that the fandom is once again happy to try employing similar tactics in the hopes of improving the game's selection of seasonal freebies. The 2024 Lantern Rite festival event, called Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze, kicks off on January 31.

According to new 4.5 leaks, it seems like Chiori may be just as bad a playable character as Dehya was when she first arrived in Version 3.5. Chiori is a Geo character that has been introduced as an NPC with the Roses and Muskets event in Version 4.3. Chiori’s release in as a playable unit, however, has already been confirmed for Version 4.5, and there are several leaks about how her gameplay kit will function. Rumors point to her being a Geo sub-DPS unit with some supporting capabilities.
Recent leaks surrounding Genshin Impact version 4.5 have revealed several side activities, including cat petting, which players will try out next month. As usual, Genshin Impact players will be introduced to a brand-new unit in a major update. This time they will meet the five-star Geo user Chiori, who is rumored to be a dual-wielding character. HoYoverse hasn't revealed her skills as yet, but some credible leakers provided information about the character's kit, revealing that she delivers a degree of AoE Geo damage.
Many Genshin Impact players think Setekh Wenut doesn't belong to the Spiral Abyss, calling the developers to remove or adjust it as soon as possible. Genshin Impact's Spiral Abyss hosts some of the hardest enemies in the game, including Setekh Wenut that lives underneath the Desert of Hadramaveth. Having been introduced as a world boss in version 3.4, the Sumeru-based serpent has joined the Spiral Abyss lineup in 3.5 with extra resistance.
Genshin Impact has revealed a brand-new Catalyst weapon Xianyun will be using after she makes her playable debut in version 4.4. With Version 4.4 set for release on January 31, 2024, Genshin Impact has revealed the character teaser for the upcoming 5-Star Anemo Catalyst Xianyun. Though Version 4.4 is set to bring a new Lantern Rite event, Chenyu Vale, three alternate skins, and two playable characters to Genshin Impact, its community hasn't exactly been happy with the annual rewards provided by the game, especially when compared to the generosity shown by the team working on Honkai: Star Rail.
Genshin Impact has been review bombed and its official Douyin (TikTok) account has lost nearly 1m followers after the recent version 4.4 livestream announced that three only dollops of Intertwined Fate material will be gifted to players during the game's Lantern Rite event.

It's shaping up to be a Geo-centered update on Genshin Impact in the near future, as both Albedo and Itto have been missing for over ten patches since their last banner appearance. Waiting lists for limited characters are a favorite in the Genshin Impact community, as it helps players chart their gacha journey by being mindful of the last time a 5-Star character had their rerun. While there is always a chance that an Event Banner in Genshin Impact receives an early rerun, as is the case with Yoimiya, HoYoverse tends to prioritize characters who haven't had a reappearance in recent versions.
The latest Special Preview Program for Genshin Impact has revealed an ambitious slate of new content coming in Version 4.4, which also includes skins for Ganyu, Shenhe, and Xingqiu, as well as confirming the event banners for Xianyun, Nahida, Xiao, and Yae Miko. Chenyu Vale in Genshin Impact is finally making its debut, as the new zone will bridge the gap between Fontaine and Liyue, and connect the two nations together. In addition to exploring its breathtaking sights, Genshin Impact players will also be able to aid the local adeptus in healing the land, and even challenge a new world boss.
Genshin Impact has officially confirmed the exact date and time of the Special Program event for version 4.4. Before each new update arrives, developer HoYoverse hosts a livestream event that reveals most of the upcoming content, such as new characters, storylines, weapons, etc.
