Final Fantasy VII Rebirth won't support importing save file data from Final Fantasy VII Remake, according to director Naoki Hamaguchi.
In an interview with the official PlayStation Blog posted after a new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer debuted as part of Sony's latest State of Play presentation, Hamaguchi stressed that these new takes on the story of Final Fantasy VII are a trilogy of standalone games, not one game split into three parts.

«Because of this, each game’s balancing is done independently and a player’s levels and abilities will not carry over from one game to the next,» Hamaguchi said. «However, we have created some special bonuses for fans who played the previous game, allowing them to start with a little something extra.»
That «something extra» is summon materia for those who have save files on their PlayStation 5 for Final Fantasy VII Remake and/or Final Fantasy VII Remake's Yuffie-centric DLC, Episode INTERmission, according to an official Square Enix blog. Remake players who dive into Rebirth will score a Leviathan materia, while those with INTERmission saves will earn a Ramuh materia. It certainly makes sense that players won't be able to bring their max level characters from Remake into Rebirth, but at least fans who have played the previous entry will get a little bit of an early power boost as a reward.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's new trailer gave fans their best look yet at the next installment in the trilogy. The jam-packed trailer showed off the return of iconic locations like the Golden Saucer and Costa del Sol, new open world traversal mechanics, enhancements to Remake's battle system, a slew of minigames, glimpses of summons like Odin and Alexander, and much, much more. Characters that weren't fully playable in Remake, like Red XIII, will be playable in Rebirth, though additional characters that join the party over the course of Rebirth's story won't be playable until the unnamed third entry in the trilogy, according to Hamaguchi.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be released on February 29, 2024 for PS5 and will come with two discs. It's available for preorder now.

If PlayStation UK's provocative advertisement for Marvel's Spider-Man 2's Collector's Edition wasn't enough to entice, maybe Square Enix has the goods to loosen those purse strings. Now available for preorder, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's Collector's Edition comes with some tantalising extras, including a girthy bust of the long boy himself: Sephiroth, the One-Winged Angel (the wing is detachable).
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the middle chapter of the ambitious Final Fantasy VII Remake project, arrives in just a few short months, and Square Enix has provided more info about the game’s world. We know FF7 Rebirth will feature a much larger, more open world than FF7 Remake and Square Enix has detailed some of the regions you’ll be exploring, including the Grasslands, Junon, and the Gold Saucer.
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has received new gameplay and details thanks to various hands-on impressions over the past few days. However, the development team hosted a stage event at Tokyo Game Show 2023 to show off even more, from The Grasslands and its mini-games to more combat. Square Enix showcased over 30 minutes of gameplay footage and a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth focused on mini-games playable in the Grasslands during its Tokyo Game Show 2023 stage event.
Fans have been pleading for years, hoping that Square Enix would provide a remake of the beloved Final Fantasy VII video game. This title launched back on the original PlayStation. Of course, we now know this remake was finally put into production, but it won’t be a complete experience with just one game. In fact, the first part of the remake has already been published, and you can enjoy it right now. However, if you’ve already played the first game in the remake collection for Final Fantasy VII, your eyes might be set on that next installment, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
After tons of requests from fans since Resident Evil 4's launch earlier this year, Capcom has finally included a way to unlock Leon's Resident Evil 2 outfit in the Separate Ways expansion.
In Rebirth, Square Enix is aiming to make meaningful additions to Final Fantasy 7 Remake's gameplay to tell a bigger story.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won't allow players to import their Final Fantasy 7 Remakesave files.
One of the things that makes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth interesting in the eyes of fans is that the game is building off of what the original “Remake” title did in 2020. We mean they’re not simply remaking the game graphically from top to bottom. Instead, they’re expanding everything that happens in the story and fleshing out moments and characters so that everything feels more robust and meaningful. The trick is that they’re doing this while also changing key moments in the key and rewriting the fates of known characters and their deaths. That “altering” will continue in the sequel.
Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Separate Ways DLC - following the adventures of Ada Wong while Leon Kennedy is busy fighting giant fish monsters and escorting presidents' daughters - has been fully revealed, and it’s out soon. Next week, in fact.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth won't let you import your save files from Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
