Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Launch Physical Sales Down Almost 30 Percent from Remake in UK

Final Fantasy 14's Dawntrail will release in full on 2nd July, 2024 – the early access will drop one week prior on 28th June – so both you and the Dawntrail development team has «one week» to get through Elden Ring's eagerly anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.

The Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail expansion will launch on July 2, Square Enix announced. Pre-orders will begin on March 26 and include three days of early access to the expansion on June 28, among other bonuses.

Final Fantasy XVI downloadable content “The Rising Tide” will launch on April 18 for $19.99 / 2,420 yen alongside the free version 1.30 update, Square Enix announced. It is also available via the Final Fantasy XVI Expansion Pass, which includes both “The Rising Tide” and the previously released “Echoes of the Fallen” for $24.99 / 3,080 yen.

We’ll say this up front for those of you still exploring Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s vast world: there are no late-game story spoilers here. As seen in its pre-release debut via a new trailer late last year, the action RPG’s theme song “No Promises to Keep” is performed in-game by Aerith. Behind the scenes though, the track was composed by Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary composer behind the iconic soundtracks for much of the Final Fantasy series, including Final Fantasy VII Remake. The song’s vocals were performed by American singer Loren Allred, who brought her spellbinding singing voice to the track, augmenting the beautiful—yet tragic—world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the epic story told within it.

In the world of video game soundtracks, you can’t get much more iconic than Nobuo Uematsu. Most well-known for composing soundtracks for the first nine Final Fantasy games, the musician has gone on to write tracks for many subsequent entries to the franchise, most recently penning the tearjerking theme song for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, No Promises to Keep.

Bringing the once-doomed MMO Final Fantasy XIV back to life and directing the latest mainline title of the long-running franchise isn’t enough for Square Enix superstar Naoki Yoshida. In a new interview with Famitsu, Yoshida chatted at length about his desire to direct yet another major game for Square Enix.

Last week was another busy one with more major new releases hitting store shelves, a couple of which have found their way into the latest weekly charts for physical software sales in the UK. As shared by GamesIndustry’s Christopher Dring on Twitter, WWE 2K24 had a strong debut, taking the top spot in its first week on sale, with physical launch sales in the UK being 26 percent higher than what its predecessor managed in the region upon its release last year.

Helldivers 2 came out of nowhere and took the world by storm, and that continues to be reflected in sales. It was the UK’s best-selling game in February, and it’s been seeing consistent growth in sales in the US as well. On top of that, the game also managed to top the PlayStation Plus charts for top downloads for the month of February. In both North America and Europe, Arrowhead Game Studios’ co-op third-person shooter was No. 1.

Final Fantasy 14 recently announced its ninth annual 14-Hour Broadcast is scheduled for April 12, starting at 8 P.M. PDT. Taking place a few months before the release window for Dawntrail, Final Fantasy 14 fans are hoping to learn some new information about the upcoming expansion during the livestream.

As per the latest weekly software and hardware sales data for Japan released by Famitsu, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has debuted on top of newest Japanese charts, which should surprise no one. The widely acclaimed action RPG sold over 262,000 physical units in Japan on debut, but while that may seem like an impressive number on isolation, it’s actually surprisingly low by Final Fantasy standards.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 14 will release on March 21st for Xbox Series X/S. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can claim the Starter Edition from March 21st to April 19th. Check out the latest trailer below.
