With the recent release of Starfield and the confirmation that The Elder Scrolls 6 is the next big title coming from Bethesda, fans of the Fallout series have had to come to terms with the fact that we're not getting a new one for quite some time. That doesn't mean there aren't Fallout experiences on the way though, as dedicated mod teams are creating their own to pass the time, with the Fallout: London developers a prime example.
They aren't the only mod team working on a massive Fallout expansion though, as there is also a group of dedicated Fallout: New Vegas modders currently working on a "DLC-sized mod" for the title called Fallout: Nuevo Mexico. It's a project that's been known about for a little while now, with a gameplay trailer having been released by the team a few months ago, but they recently had the chance to talk with GameRant about their inspirations and why they're using Fallout: New Vegas rather than Fallout 4, which has more tools and a larger community.
Nuevo Mexico lead Zapshock mainly puts it down to the game's "scripting abilities", which lets them use more extensions to expand the game's code and allow them more creative freedom. In particular, Fallout 4's controversial dialogue tree would have been a big hurdle for the team to overcome, especially with some of the more unique features planned for Nuevo Mexico.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Fallout 4’s dialogue trees. I tried using the creation kit and I think it's really good if you want to make a linear type of story, but I tried it and yeah, no.
Not merely content to recreate a typical Fallout experience, those behind Nuevo Mexico plan on shaking up the standard formula by introducing features Fallout fans have wanted for years. For example, Fallout: Nuevo Mexico will take player backgrounds into consideration, as you'll be able to choose a different walk of life instead of being forced to play as someone crawling out of a Vault for the first time.
One of the more interesting aspects of this is the ability to play as a Ghoul, something that has never been done before. Ghouls are often looked down on and shunned throughout the Fallout series, and Nuevo Mexico will let you experience that prejudice first hand, giving you a different perspective on the game's world. It's all very ambitious, creative, and definitely a project to keep an eye on if you're a Fallout fan. More trailers and info will be revealed throughout the year, so it won't be long before we see what the Nuevo Mexico team is cooking.
