Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery will star in a third movie.
Per Deadline, Thunder Road and Dragonfly Films have announced that The Boondock Saints 3 is in the works. The movie will be a “reimagining of the action film franchise” that will involve “indoctrination of new Saints.”
Further plot details remain under wraps at this time.
The Walking Dead’s Reedus and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles’ Flanery will reprise their respective roles as Murphy and Connor MacManus in the new film.
A director is not yet attached to the film, though Deadline reports Troy Duffy — who directed both 1999’s The Boondock Saints and the 2009 sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day — won’t helm the project.
The new Boondock Saints movie will be produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Todd Myers, Shaun Redick, Yvette Yates Redick, Duffy, and Don Carmody. Reedus, Flanery, Charlie Morrison, Peter D. Graves, and JoAnne Colona serve as executive producers.
“I’m thrilled to be working alongside Basil Iwanyk’s Thunder Road Films and Todd Myers’ Dragonfly Films to bring more of the story of the Boondock Saints to audiences,” Reedus said. “I can’t wait for everyone to see what we have long been working toward. We are pressing on without our longtime friend and Captain, Troy Duffy on this one. He has decided to write a Boondock Saints book series and I can’t wait to read it.”
Flanery added, “Basil and Todd are the perfect partners to bust the brothers out of prison. With Basil and Todd at the helm, this will be the best Saints yet. So now it’s time for the brothers to break out the pea coats, re-load, and get back to work.”
A release date for the third Boondock Saints movie has not yet been set.
