Dragon’s Dogma 2 Director Apologizes for the 12-Year Wait, Says He Wanted to Make a Sequel Right Away

We’re continuing this month’s IGN First on Dragon’s Dogma 2 with a detailed look at its new, robust character creator. The original Dragon’s Dogma had a pretty intense character creator, but Dragon’s Dogma 2 has upped the ante for just how detailed you can get for your character and ideal Pawn.

Players will be able to face off against the legendary Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2, if they can find it.

A week ago, I told you about how MIS was the next tech firm to be gunning for Steam Deck’s title in the portable PC market, with a device called The Claw. Well, it seems the company is thinking long, long term, with some newer versions of this yet-to-be-released system on the horizon.

Given the fact that the original Dragon’s Dogma is over a decade old, it’s safe to assume that there will be a sizeable portion of the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2’s player base that won’t have much (or any) experience of its predecessor, but according to Hideaki Itsuno – director of both games – the sequel is made to be newcomer-friendly.

While the lore revealed in does seem to clash with the established timeline, there is an intriguing possibility that the Zonai may not have founded the original Hyrule as the game suggests. Instead, there is a suggestion that the Hyrule ruled over by Rauru and Sonia may actually be a successor to another, even older kingdom. If true, this has the potential to explain some of ’s more puzzling details and has enormous implications for the entire series.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is promising to be an absolutely massive experience, and while it doesn’t look like there will be any shortage of excellent content even if you decide to stick to its main story, Capcom is still tucking away a bevy of optional content for players to find and engage with. The developer has unveiled another slice of that – courtesy of a new video by IGN – in the form of Sphinx, a completely optional and mysterious enemy that will test players in entirely unique ways.

The original Dragon’s Dogma was a massive open world experience, and with Capcom promising that its upcoming sequel is going to be even bigger, expectations are certainly high in terms of how much content the game will have on offer, and what sort of quality we can expect from its side content.

One of the most striking shots in the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date trailer is a shot of a giant, eerily grinning feathered monster with fiery red eyes, ominously approaching the Arisen. To me, it stuck out as a uniquely non-confrontational encounter with a giant and imposing monster, which is not something you see very often in the world of Dragon’s Dogma.
