Call of Duty Reveals New Look at Warhammer 40K Crossover Event

After weeks of leaks and speculation, Call of Duty has revealed more about its upcoming crossover with the Warhammer 40,000 franchise. A new trailer featuring Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 andWarzone cosmetics shows off a series of looks inspired by the game's factions and characters in action.
The Warhammer 40,000 franchise has seen a wave of new games and adaptations hit the market, ranging from full titles like Warhammer 40k Rogue Traderto crossovers in other media like special Magic: The Gathering cards and decks. Games Workshop has been working to expand Warhammer 40,000's broader presence steadily over the last few years, bringing touches of the grim darkness of the far future to a multiverse of other media.
The latest game to feel the reach of the Imperium is Call of Duty. As promised earlier when Activision officially confirmed various Call of Duty crossover packs, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone will get the chance to dress up as members of the Space Marines and other Warhammer 40,000 characters. A new trailer shows off the cosmetics in action, covering new looks for characters, weapons, and actions like takedowns.
The trailer opens by featuring Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 characters posed in a battle scene and framed in the «tilt shift» fashion to make them look like classic Warhammer 40,000 miniatures. The figures then get into motion, showing off costumes inspired by three major Imperium factions: The Space Marines of the Adeptus Astartes, soldiers of the Astra Militarum (also called the Imperial Guard), and the Adepta Sororitas, or Sisters of Battle.
There's also a specificity to the looks shown in the trailer, with costumes and weapon customizations evoking specific organizations in the Warhammer 40,000 lore. The cosmetics based on Space Marines feature armor from the Ultramarines and Blood Angels chapters, including Juggernaut Skins that look almost exactly like Primaris Space Marines, dressed in their power armor. A skin for the Soulrender sword turns it into an Astartes Chainsword, while the Astra Militarum skins evoke the classic Cadian Guard uniforms.
Despite being somewhat incongruous with Call of Duty's modern military aesthetic sense, there's something apropos about the thought of a Warhammer 40,000 crossover bringing the grim darkness of the far future (where there is only war) to Call of Duty's grim darkness of the present day (where there is also only war). Fans of both may well get a charge out of the thought of having modern-day soldiers fighting it out against the caricatured warriors of the year 40,000.
Released in November of 2023, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) continues Captain Price's story from the 2019 and 2022 games.
