Baldur's Gate 3 player discovers a heartwrenching Honour Mode softlock - right at the end of the game

Enshrouded, the other notable survival game to be launching into early access this week, puts a soulslike spin on its combat. But while that might imply Fromsoft-style difficulty, players are already saying that it's too easy to live up to that comparison.

One Baldur's Gate 3 player has found a new way to cheese the hag fight in Act 1 by trapping the slippery boss in her starting area, thus making her unable to retreat to a more advantageous position. The discovery adds to the list of tricks for making short work of the game's many tough enemies, such as the ingenious morningstar strategy that can one-shot the final boss of Baldur's Gate 3 Act 2.

However, bosses aren't the only threats that can end a run when it just takes a single party wipe to get a game over screen. While the branching narrative and diverse class options can inspire fans to try a new playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, the community's latest obsession has undoubtedly been Honour Mode.

The Adamantine Forge in Baldur's Gate 3 is as tough as mithril nails. You have to fight a giant towering construct in what is one of the game's most unconventional bosses. Swinging a sword and casting spells aimlessly won't get you anywhere. You have to soften it up with lava, lure it to the central pillar, and crush it over and over again. Or you can just dive on it with an owlbear, I guess.

While the accidentally discovered exploit defeats the whole purpose of Baldur's Gate 3 Honour Mode, it also presents a tempting option for players who have been struggling with overcoming the game's ultimate challenge.

Baldur's Gate 3 has released Hotfix 17 across all platforms, an update that fixes performance issues on the PS5, compresses save game file size, and improves on some of the game's narrative flow. As the best-selling game on Steam in 2023 and the recipient of many accolades – including Game of the Year 2023 at The Game Awards – it's safe to say that Larian built a worthy sequel to Baldur's Gate 2. Though the developers openly admitted that Baldur's Gate 3 greatly benefited from its three-year Early Access period, the level of detail and care that went into the game is still impressive.
