A Baldur's Gate 3 player has worked out that one of the RPG's simplest spells is enough to fool one of the gods of the D&D pantheon.

You probably missed Minthara as a companion in Baldur's Gate 3 since recruiting her means slaughtering refugees, druids, and children. You can even romance her. But we're talking about bumping uglies with a genocidal villain, so it's caused some debate among fans.
A lot of discussion sparked because of a fan-favourite line that has been shared across Reddit, Tumblr, and Twitter, "If you had killed me when we first met, I would have been just one more casualty of your crusade against the Absolute."

Most players are fine killing Minthara, given how evil she is. I didn't even talk to her on my first playthrough. I found her after saving my pal Halsin (who was still in bear form, of course) and punted her off a cliff. Sorry, Minthara. But this line is seen by many as her vulnerable side shining through, showing that she isn't just a cold-hearted monster. Just check the Minthara tag on Tumblr.
Sweet one-liners aren't enough to convince everyone, though; "If you hadn't helped me kill all those refugees, we couldn't have become fwends," Aware-Munkie replied, garnering 5,000 upvotes.
An evil companion is perfect for an evil run, right? Depends if you think sabotaging Act 1 is worth it. Siding with the goblins blocks a lot of follow-up quests in subsequent acts, especially since Wyll and Karlach abandon you. To boot, Minthara isn't nearly as fleshed out as other companions.
"Unless you play a character who just kills everyone and everything (but then, wouldn't you also just kill Minthara?), likes to kill innocents, or has some kind of deeply-rooted hatred for druids/tieflings, I see absolutely no reason to side with her," icanmakehimworse said. "She gives the player nothing other than the meta 'oh this is a baddie and I play a baddie let's do crimes and recruit a baddie.'"
That being said, others love siding with her for thematic reasons, rather than practical, gameplay ones.
"Minthara is only a good choice on evil playthroughs because she totally plays into the feedback loop of obtaining more power for yourself. Dark Justiciar, ascended vampire, tadpole evolution," JusticeJuant said. "She's the devil on your shoulder."
There are players who tried to be evil only to find the 'wipe out a camp of refugees' requirement to be too much to stomach. Even the Dark Urge wouldn't go that far, right?
"She's probably a great companion, but I tried going the evil route once and fuck that," Tman11S said. "Having to kill a bunch of unarmed level one tieflings is horrible".
Problematic fave, or just problematic? Minthara is a complex character who has stirred much debate. And even if you think she's worth the trouble, her romance path is bugged. But

Although there are many romance options in , there are a few notable characters that are left out of the realm of possibility. Considering how much freedom is given to players in the campaign, the fact that some characters are not romance options seems awkward, as they seem like a good fit. Players can choose to be righteous heroes in a good-aligned playthrough or complete villains in evil campaigns in , each of which unlocks different partners with whom relationships can be built. A clear example is Minthara, the leader of the goblin pack.
