A New Prince Of Persia Game Is Reportedly Launching Later This Year

It seems like Prince of Persia games are just like buses - you wait ages for one and then two show up at the same time. Less than three months after the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, it's being reported that Ubisoft plans on releasing another Prince of Persia game later this year, this time a roguelite developed by the studio behind the DLC for hit indie title Dead Cells, Evil Empire.
This is according to Insider Gaming, which claims that the title will be called 'The Rogue Prince of Persia' and will launch in Steam Early Access at some point later this year. Insider Gaming's sources have claimed that the game will receive a consistent flow of free updates over time, based on feedback left by the game's community, and that the game has been in development for four years, after talks between Evil Empire and Ubisoft at GDC 2019.
We don't know much else about the title right now, apart from the game being heavily stylized just like The Lost Crown, with the art direction taking heavy inspiration from "Franco-Belgian comics". That should definitely be enough to pique the curiosity of most Prince of Persia fans though, especially with a developer like Evil Empire that has already had great success with the roguelite genre in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania.
If these reports are true and Ubisoft does release The Rogue Prince of Persia on Steam Early Access this year, it will be the first time since 2019 that a Ubisoft title has launched on the platform on the day of release.
With this news, it looks like Prince of Persia fans will be eating well over the next couple of years. Not only do we have this new roguelite to potentially look forward to, but it was also recently announced that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is getting some new free game modes over the course of 2024, with a paid story expansion set to drop at the end of the year.
We also have the Sand of Time remake to look forward to, though when that will actually release is anyone's best guess right now. The latest official update we had from Ubisoft claimed that the game had passed an "important milestone", after being delayed indefinitely and shifted to a new development team. A leaked trophy list earlier this year had some hoping for a release date or new trailer, but the jury is still out on when we'll finally see the title hit store shelves.
