It's Star Wars Day and if you're planning on celebrating your fandom by playing some video games set in a galaxy far, far away, you've got a lot of options. If you'd prefer to do that without spending any money, you still have options, and they're better options than you might think. Whether you game on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or both, each platform has offered up the chance to take two of the very best Star Wars games for a spin this weekend to celebrate May 4.
Xbox announced Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be a part of its Free Play Days this weekend, but there's a catch, and it's a good one. You don't need Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate to play the free trial. Xbox's free trial of Survivor is available to anyone with an Xbox Series X|S. It's available now and will let you play for five hours, provided you get those five hours finished by 2:59 am EST on May 6. If you want to carry on your adventure after that, you will need to buy the game or subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate. Survivor has been added to the EA Play library which means it's also available on Game Pass.
Survivor was never released on Switch, and considering the technical problems it has on more powerful platforms at launch, that's probably a good thing. Switch owners haven't been left out this Star Wars Day, though. Nintendo has revealed NSO subscribers can play the Switch's Knights of the Old Republic port for free between now and May 9. Best of all, there's no five-hour limit like there is on Survivor. You can play Knights of the Old Republic as much as you like for no additional charge for the next five days. The only downside is the trial only appears to be live in Europe and the UK.
There will hopefully be more installments in both Star Wars series you can sample for free this weekend, although there's a far higher chance we hear about a third Jedi game before any more news about what's next for Knights of the Old Republic. Despite cuts at Respawn, and what was believed to be a Mandalorian game reportedly being scrapped, as it stands there will be a third Jedi game. Star Wars and trilogies do tend to go hand in hand after all.
It's not quite as simple for Knights of the Old Republic. The original game you can play on Switch right now has reportedly been getting a remake for years, clashing rumors claiming it's both dead and still in development. It was originally linked to PlayStation, but the latest reports on the remake claim Sony no longer wants anything to do with it. Despite that, the Saber CEO has claimed the project is still in the works.
