Fortnite players aren't too happy about this year's Star Wars event, as they think that there's not enough content added to the Battle Royale mode compared to how much has been put into Lego Fortnite.
Happy Star Wars day, everyone! It's May the Fourth, which means that it's the perfect time to celebrate everything from that beloved galaxy far, far away. As it has done for a while now, Fortnite has marked the occasion with a Star Wars-themed event that brings back some of the content introduced over the past few years, while also adding some new items and skins.
You'd think that adding Yoda and C-3PO as Backblings and bringing back Lightsabers to the Battle Royale mode would have fans partying like Ewoks after murdering a bunch of people, but that doesn't seem to be the case so far. In fact, the reaction to 2024's Star Wars event hasn't just been Luke (Skywalker) warm, it's been negative.
The problem that fans have begins before you even get into what the event actually adds to Fortnite. As we discussed earlier this week, there's a very high price point attached to this year's crossover, with it costing around 12,000 V-Bucks (around $96) to get all of the available crossover items, not including the Lego Decor Bundles.
Then there are the skins, which aren't exactly popular picks. This year we've got a random Stormtrooper, Luke in his Dagobah attire, Lando Calrissian, and Chewbacca, who is a part of the Lego Battle Pass. Lando and Chewbacca are good additions, but yet another version of Luke and a boring Stormtrooper are pretty weak picks considering how many iconic Star Wars characters are yet to appear in Fortnite.
At least the Yoda Backbling is undeniably a win and the highlight of the whole event. C-3PO scores a pass too.
Fortnite's Star Wars skins and prices aren't getting much love, but the real kicker is the lack of new features in the Battle Royale mode. As pointed out by Redditor IRS_Agent-636, this year has really only added Chewbacca's Bowcaster to the game alongside bringing back items we've already had like Darth Vader's Lightsaber and the E-11 Blaster.
Instead of focusing on the Battle Royale mode, this year's Star Wars event went all in on Lego Fortnite, which makes sense considering it's the new mode, but is upsetting a lot of fans who stick with Fortnite's main draw. The additions made to Lego Fortnite are all awesome, but it's clearly taken a toll on what could be brought into the Battle Royale mode.

It can be difficult for developers to maintain live service titles these days, with fans expecting more and more content each month to avoid the risk of being labeled a "dead game." Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has been treading that particular tightrope rather well since launch, delivering new armor, weapons, and emotes via the Premium Warbonds system that has been serving them well up until now.
The developers behind the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws just shared some insight into how the game’s Reputation system will shape Kay’s adventure across the Outer Rim. Almost two years after Ubisoft and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora studio Massive Entertainment announced that it was working on an open-world Star Wars game, they officially revealed Star Wars Outlaws during last summer’s Xbox Games Showcase. This crime caper will be set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and will put players in the role of an aspiring scoundrel trying to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the Star Wars criminal underworld.
Last year, months before Homelander was even revealed, Antony Starr confirmed that he wouldn't be voicing his iconic The Boys character in Mortal Kombat 1.
Some Fortnite players are currently taking to social media to voice their displeasure with the game's recently leaked UI changes. The upcoming interface revamp appears to revolve around a new version of the Fortnite lobby.
Stardew Valley has recently made the Slime Hutch significantly smaller. While the change is already six weeks old, some Stardew Valley players have only now started noticing it.
Fortnite's yearly Star Wars update is here and it brings with it a new Wookie Bowcaster weapon, Lightsabers in Lego Fortnite, and a Yoda Backbling, but the real highlight is the return of the Olympic Mythics.
Happy May 3rd, Battlestar Galactica fans! Remember what John Dune said about living long and prospering? He said: Oh, look, objectively excellent dogfighter Star Wars: Squadrons is under two quid on Steam. As Edwin pointed out to me, that’s about the price of a third of latte, although he does pay London prices. Also, Edwin, are you going around trying to buy the dregs of people’s lattes? I cannot judge. Were it in short supply, I too would debase myself for caffeine in an instant.
Thank your own personal deity—possibly C-3PO as worshipped by Ewoks—it's Friday! Obviously, the two biggest headliners are those freebies—LEGO Star Wars III and Tomb Raider [2013]. Whip up a free (and easily ditched) Amazon Prime Gaming subscription to have and to hold them forever in your GOG library. I recently replayed Lara's reboot as part of the ongoing gaming education of my eldest. Still stands up as a well-Crofted action adventure.
Star Wars returns to Fortnite on May 3, one day before the annual May 4 Star Wars celebrations.
A recent Stardew Valley update has added a potential homage to SpongeBob SquarePants, as the pineapple item can now be placed in fish tanks.
