Some Fortnite players are currently taking to social media to voice their displeasure with the game's recently leaked UI changes. The upcoming interface revamp appears to revolve around a new version of the Fortnite lobby.
The hit battle royale game has long been the subject of fan complaints centered on its user interface. One such recent wave of criticism emerged in response to the UI changes introduced in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 5. Many fans proclaimed the late 2023 revision to be cluttered and confusing, calling for Epic to rethink its design sensibilities.
While the developer does appear to be in the process of reworking a portion of the game's interface, pleasing everyone will simply not be possible. The latest testament to that arrives in the form of a lobby revamp revealed by reliable Fortnite leaker Hypex, which polarized the fandom from the moment it emerged on Twitter in early May. While the image is heavily cropped, what it does show is that friend status updates have been moved from the side to the center of the screen. This does make some key information more immediately available, but at the expense of the end result looking way more cluttered.
Some fans believe the trade-off simply isn't worth it, having said as much in response to Hypex's Fortnite leak. «Lucky I don't have friends, this looks trash,» wrote one user on Twitter. Not everyone chiming in on the recently emerged image shared that sentiment, with a number of people positing that the revamp appears to improve functionality. One such perspective was shared by Twitter user @XentraBlob, who welcomed the idea of being able to change their status from the lobby, without having to navigate to the Social tab. Another fan opined that the leaked lobby looks way better than the current one, which they had labeled as boringly «bland.»
But even some of the positive reactions to the leak were paired with criticism of Epic, with most such ambivalent opinions stemming from the fact that the company has yet to address the unpopular Fortnite Locker UI changes. Despite promising to do so in December, the Locker UI remains unchanged half a year later. «This isn't the UI update we asked for,» wrote one user on Twitter, with over a dozen others echoing a similar sentiment in response to the lobby leak.
The current status of Epic's efforts to revamp the Locker interface remains unknown. It is equally unclear when exactly the newly leaked Fortnite lobby may roll out to players.
