One of the most underrated features of PlayStation Plus Premium is the game trials that it offers. Although Sony does not put its AAA games on the service the day they release, it and several other third-party publishers offer up free demos that essentially give players full access to the game for a limited period of time. It’s a great way to test a new game before you buy and it also gives you an excuse to try out a variety of different games this weekend without making the time commitment to beat them all. I looked through the full list of game trials that PlayStation Plus Premium offers and pinpointed three of the demos that are most worth your time.
The first is a two-hour demo for one of the PlayStation 5’s biggest exclusives. The next will give you a two-hour taste of the latest fighting game in a long-running franchise. Finally, the one-hour trial of one of the year’s best indies will get you hooked on the card-based roguelike that consumed my life for a bit.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the best AAA games on the PS5. Developed by Insomniac Games, this game feels like the pinnacle of the gameplay and narrative concepts introduced across Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Web-swinging feels better than ever and flows even smoother than before thanks to the addition of mechanics like the Web Wings. Combat still feels great, and the gameplay remains rock solid when control shifts to characters that aren’t Spider-Man. Narratively, Insomniac knocks it out of the park with its interpretation of the Symbiote storyline from the comics, which is nuanced and takes a closer look at how some of Spider-Man’s villains can be redeemed.
RelatedThis two-hour trial of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gives you plenty of time to play through the bombastic opening fight against Sandman — which is one of the best parts of the entire game — and get a feel for swinging around its open world as both Peter and Miles. If you haven’t picked up this game yet, checking out this game trial is well worth your time as long as Sony doesn’t bring the full game to the PS Plus game catalog.
The full version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive.
While Mortal Kombat 1 has a “1” in its title, this game is actually the 12th in a storied fighting game franchise. Mortal Kombat is known for being a fighting game that doesn’t shy away from brutality. The gruesome fatal blows and fatalities that the series is known for are as bloody as ever in Mortal Kombat 1.

Steam is home to seemingly endless amounts of video games, and the enormous library of content makes it easy for great games to get lost in the shuffle. 2024 has already played host to some excellent titles that haven't hit the mainstream, even if some have still managed to pick up a reasonable amount of traction.
Xbox is going all-in during Pride Month this year with a number of deals and partnerships. This includes making Tell Me Why, the decision-making narrative game about twins dealing with their childhood trauma, free for June.
Hot off the heels of a new State of Play presentation, you’re probably itching to play some games on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 this weekend. If you’re a PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium subscriber, you certainly are spoiled for choice. As May turns into June and we continue the season of game reveals, there are three titles available on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers that I want to highlight.
We’re right on the precipice of June, which will be chock-full of new game announcements from every publisher. In fact, that wave already started with Sony’s May 30 State of Play. Still, just because this time of year is mainly focused on video game announcements doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be playing anything new. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber in particular, there are three titles you can have a great time with this weekend.
The demo for puzzle game Schim, in which you play as a boy and his frog that only exists in the shadows, is out now on Steam. I’ve given it a whirl, and its pretty froggin’ delightful. The game has you progress through different scenes set in a chill, colorful townscape. You can switch at any time between boy and frog. The boy can go anywhere, but is frequently blocked by environmental puzzles. The frog has the means to solve such puzzles, by hopping between shadows naturally cast by the environment. They act like little inky puddles, and simply jumping from one to the other is a rare joy.
Did you know that if you have a Netflix subscription, you have access to a pretty fantastic library of games right now?
Memorial Day is coming up, so you’re probably wondering what games you should play on your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 over the holiday weekend. Lucky for you, a new batch of games were added to the PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra game catalog earlier this week, and it brought plenty of games well worth your time. Three in particular stand out to me; download them today and try them out over the next few days.
Xbox Game Pass is about to become significantly more grimdark as a wealth of games will be free to play for the weekend. Following on from the recent event which saw the announcement of several new video games set within the sprawling sci-fi universe, Microsoft is allowing interested users to taste the glory of the Imperium or the evil villainy of the Xenos races. Most of the games included in this week's Free Play Days will take a significant amount of time to complete, so it's worth picking and choosing some favorites.
Everything And Then The Licensed Kitchen Sink fighting game MultiVersus returns next week after an almost year-long self-imposed post-beta exile. With the decision to pull the game from sale and turn off its servers for months on end after allowing people to sink their real-life money into unlocking costumes and such (with no refunds), its developers are now looking to seemingly give something back in return.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is finally here, giving Xbox Series X owners the system’s most impressive technical feat to date. The dark sequel is getting some mixed reviews due to its limited gameplay, but most reviewers seem to agree that its visuals are astonishing. It’s biggest highlight, though, is its audio — which should come as no surprise if you’re familiar with the first game. When the makers of Hellblade 2 recommend you put on some headphones to play it, that’s not something to be taken lightly. You’re going to want a great audio solution for this one.
Xbox Game Pass subscribers are already set up for a great weekend as Microsoft locks in two games for its weekly Free Play Days program, allowing users to get a taste of some new experiences with paying a cent. Not only do players have an opportunity to experience an explosive co-op shooter that's filled plenty of horrific monsters and buckets of blood, those squeamish fans can avoid the mayhem and revel in the joys of rampant capitalism. Better yet, if either experience is really appealing, they both sport a major discount so the fun doesn't have to end on Monday.
