Universal’s The Fall Guy stumbled out of the gates, earning $28.5 million in its opening frame, far below the $35M many anticipated, per Deadline. That’s about on par with most comedies of this ilk (see Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City), but David Leitch’s action comedy cost anywhere between $130M-$150M to produce and needed to get off to a strong start, particularly considering the upcoming competition.
Still, Fall Guy earned an A CinemaScore and strong reviews, so the hope is that it eventually reaches $100M domestically. Also, that’s Gosling’s third-highest opening behind Barbie ($162M) and Blade Runner 2049 ($32.7M), and Blunt’s ninth-best just behind Edge of Tomorrow ($28.7M).
Worldwide, the Ryan Gosling/Emily Blunt pic earned $65.4M.
Elsewhere, the 25th-anniversary re-release of George Lucas’ Star Wars: The Phantom Menace added a nice chunk of change to its already robust gross, earning $8.1M domestically and $14.5M globally. That ranks on the higher end of re-releases, just below the $10.5M domestic earned by James Cameron’s Avatar in 2022.
Also opening this week was the horror flick Tarot, which only managed $6.5M from 3,104 theaters. Last week’s champ, Challengers, collected $7.6M (-49%) in its sophomore frame to raise its domestic cume to $29.5M.
This week sees the release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

may not have been the silver bullet Microsoft hoped for. However, it’s still a way for subscribers to play several free games every month. The second half of May sees the arrival of twelve more games, including a major new release.

20th Century Fox’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes went bananas this weekend, raking in a reported $55-56M per Deadline. Strong previews and a $20 million Saturday propelled the sci-fi adventure to the top of the charts, while a $72.5M international haul pushed its global tally to $129M ($13.2M from Imax).
The developers behind the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws just shared some insight into how the game’s Reputation system will shape Kay’s adventure across the Outer Rim. Almost two years after Ubisoft and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora studio Massive Entertainment announced that it was working on an open-world Star Wars game, they officially revealed Star Wars Outlaws during last summer’s Xbox Games Showcase. This crime caper will be set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and will put players in the role of an aspiring scoundrel trying to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the Star Wars criminal underworld.
Star Wars Outlaws has revealed a pair of themed Xbox controllers fans can build in Xbox Design Labs. The best way for Xbox gamers to create personalized controllers, Xbox Design Labs allows users to customize every button on an Xbox controller with a vast array of available colors. The program even offers fully customizable Xbox Elite controllers with its own set of premium colors and textures.
It's Star Wars Day and if you're planning on celebrating your fandom by playing some video games set in a galaxy far, far away, you've got a lot of options. If you'd prefer to do that without spending any money, you still have options, and they're better options than you might think. Whether you game on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or both, each platform has offered up the chance to take two of the very best Star Wars games for a spin this weekend to celebrate May 4.
Fortnite players aren't too happy about this year's Star Wars event, as they think that there's not enough content added to the Battle Royale mode compared to how much has been put into Lego Fortnite.
In its continuing quest to become Everything to Everyone, Fortnite has shapeshifted, The Thing-like, into a new Lego Star Wars game. The Lego Fortnite survival mode has been expanded with a new, permanent Star Wars world, with this weekend - which includes May the Fourth, don’tcha know - also kicking off a new battle pass and bringing additions to every other part of Fortnite: whether you’re playing it as a battle royale shooter (remember that?), racing game or music-rhythm successor to Guitar Hero.
Free trials of Star Wars games have launched for Xbox and Nintendo Switch players.
Happy May 3rd, Battlestar Galactica fans! Remember what John Dune said about living long and prospering? He said: Oh, look, objectively excellent dogfighter Star Wars: Squadrons is under two quid on Steam. As Edwin pointed out to me, that’s about the price of a third of latte, although he does pay London prices. Also, Edwin, are you going around trying to buy the dregs of people’s lattes? I cannot judge. Were it in short supply, I too would debase myself for caffeine in an instant.
Thank your own personal deity—possibly C-3PO as worshipped by Ewoks—it's Friday! Obviously, the two biggest headliners are those freebies—LEGO Star Wars III and Tomb Raider [2013]. Whip up a free (and easily ditched) Amazon Prime Gaming subscription to have and to hold them forever in your GOG library. I recently replayed Lara's reboot as part of the ongoing gaming education of my eldest. Still stands up as a well-Crofted action adventure.
