Dataminers have uncovered potential evidence of a new playable race, the Harronir, which could be coming in the next expansion of World of Warcraft. As the 2024 release of World of Warcraft: The War Within grows closer, this leak may be the first indication of a previously unannounced race.
World of Warcraft: The War Within will herald the beginning of the ambitious Worldsoul Saga, an epic story spanning a trilogy of expansions. The War Within’s public alpha test went live on April 18, allowing select players to begin exploring the mysterious Isle of Dorn. This will be the first of four new zones featured in WoW’s next expansion, with more regions becoming available as the test progresses. The public alpha's release also allowed dataminers to access previously encrypted files, revealing a wealth of new information about the next installment of Blizzard’s iconic MMORPG.
Dataminers at Wowhead have uncovered surprising files regarding a previously unannounced race. Despite not appearing in any of The War Within’s demos or trailers, which have already revealed many of the new features coming to World of Warcraft, the game’s files include a host of customization options for an unknown race called the Harronir. Adorned with body fur and strange shoulder quills, the tusked Harronir boast features somewhat reminiscent of both Trolls and Night Elves. Although there is no guarantee that the race will be playable, the sheer number of customization options indicates the possibility that they could become available as an Allied Race. Files have even been discovered for a matching set of unique Harronir armor and weaponry.
While it has yet to be confirmed whether the Harronir will be playable or not, The War Within will bring at least one new race to the game. Blizzcon 2023 revealed that the Earthen will be the 25th playable race coming to World of Warcraft. The stone-like Earthen will be distinct from the game’s current Dwarves and Dark Iron Dwarves, with their own unique talents and racial abilities. Like the Pandaren and Dracthyr, the last playable race added to the game in Dragonflight, the Earthen will be available to both Horde and Alliance players.
Along with new races, The War Within will also bring tons of new features to World of Warcraft. Warbands will allow for a more cohesive experience between characters on the same account, while the new Hero Talent Tree offers unique pathways for each class. Other notable features include dynamic flying, eight new dungeons, and AI-accompanied Delves. While it is too late to get involved with the current alpha test, excited players can now sign up for The War Within’s beta test to try out everything the expansion has to offer before its release later in 2024.
