There are several cats in World of Warcraft: The War Within that characters can pick up and hold. While World of Warcraft has let players pet cats and other creatures before, this is the first time their characters can actually lift them in the game’s history.
Cats have always been a big deal in World of Warcraft. They are one of the most iconic types of pets Hunters can tame since World of Warcraft started, and players can collect tons of feline mounts and minions as well. Night Elves in particular have a special affinity for them, with their racial mounts in Classic WoW being the nightsaber.
However, some new cats are coming to the game in The War Within that have a very special feature. Scattered around Dornogal, the capital city of the new Earthen Allied race in World of Warcraft, players can find a handful of rotund cats. When characters interact with them, instead of simply petting the cat, they actually bend down and pick them up for a moment. WoW fan and cat lover Haughty Chicken discovered at least five of the felines hidden across the city in The War Within alpha and shared screenshots of her character cuddling with them on Twitter.
As of now, only these five cats can be picked up and hugged, but it is possible World of Warcraft will expand this charming feature to other critters in the future. For now, fans can look forward to caressing these kitties themselves when they get the chance to visit this new World of Warcraft zone once The War Within releases.
There is more for cat lovers to look forward to in The War Within as well. Were the chubby cats of Dornugal not enough, the Arathi of Hallowfall also raise lynxes as pets, mounts, and life companions. Players can see and pet them all over Hallowfall in WoW: The War Within, and will be able to collect them as mounts, battle pets, and Hunter companions.
Unfortunately for dog lovers, outside a few storm wolves in the Isle of Dorn, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of canines in The War Within quite yet, but that could always change as players discover more of the expansion in later alpha and beta builds. In the meantime, fans can still travel all over the Ohn’ahran plains and pet all the hound-like bakar there – and complete one of the more than 100 achievements they need to add Taivan, the best boy of World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, to their mount collections.
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight was developed by Blizzard Entertainment and is the ninth expansion pack for the iconic massively multiplayer online role-playing game World of Warcraft.
Dragonflight features an overhauled user interface, raises the level cap to 70, and introduces a new race and class.
