NISA announced today that a new adventure is starting next year in The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak. Set in the aftermath of a brief war, Calvard is enjoying a prosperous time of economic growth. But game settings remain boring if the good times are uninterrupted, and this prosperous time feels threatened as the public grows wary over the large influx of immigrants as questionable political reform takes hold. Players will control a spriggan by the name of Van Arkride. He is a professional that dwells underground, making ends meet by taking jobs legitimate sources can’t accept. Owing allegiance to no one, he will take on work from any client whether it be a in the role of detective, negotiator or bounty hunter.
The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails is an action RPG with platforming elements that started life on the PSP all the way back in 2012. And as is the case with so many of Falcom's lesser-known titles, it was never released outside of Japan. This new PS4 version, then, is a remaster of what some would consider to be a bit of a classic, and while we'd hesitate to put it on the same podium as, say, the best games in Falcom's Ys series, there's no doubt that The Legend of Nayuta is a blast to play.
If major RPG franchises like Final Fantasy introduced me to RPGs, it’s the B-tier titles that made me love the genre. Throughout the SNES, PSX, and PS2 eras of gaming, those lower budget, heartfelt RPGs were my bread and butter. Games like Illusion of Gaia (and later Terranigma), Lunar: The Silver Star Story, and Wild Arms meant so much to me, and I’m always in search of titles that capture that same creative energy. The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails may not come from that same time period, but it is absolutely cut from that same cloth.
according to newly registered ESRB ratings, it looks like Falcom's excellent JRPGs, Trails of Cold Steel 3 and Trails of Cold Steel 4, are coming to PS5. The two sequels, which released on western PS4s in 2019 and 2020 respectively, are published by NIS America outside of Japan — and we all know how much that company loves its PS5 ports.
After The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie, Falcom moves on from the Erebonian saga. However, it looks to be enhancing previous entries in the series for PS5 players, published by NIS America. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) recently rated PS5 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4. Each title has a “T” for Teen rating due to violence, language and some suggestive themes.
The Entertainment Software Rating Board has rated PlayStation 5 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV published by NIS America.
