Microsoft is reportedly planning to unveil new Gears of War and Call of Duty games at its traditional Xbox summer showcase.

Microsoft confirmed earlier this year that its annual Xbox Games Showcase would be returning in June, and though a specific date for the event has yet to be officially announced, it seems one has been set internally within the company.

While Microsoft has plenty of first-party titles in the works, one of its most prominent, Gears of War, hasn’t been mentioned for some time. However, roughly five years after the launch of Gear 5, it’s allegedly set to reveal Gears 6 this Summer per Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb (with The Verge’s Tom Warren affirming the same).

Development on Gears 6 has been ongoing for a while now, and with reports having claimed last year that developer The Coalition had cancelled two unannounced projects in order to focus on its flagship third-person shooter, many are beginning to wonder when it’ll be officially announced, especially with Gears 5 approaching its fifth anniversary.

Multiple insiders have claimed that Gears of War 6 is set to be revealed this summer, although it might be a while until the game is actually released. With the franchise almost five years removed from its previous entry, fans have grown increasingly eager to hear any news regarding the next Gears of War title.

Now, Gears of War's original creator is still interested in helping with the franchise's future.

According to some gaming industry insiders, a Gears of War collection could be in its testing phases right now. Gears of War is a classic Xbox third-person shooter franchise, though some of its games, like the second and third titles of the original trilogy, are trapped on the Xbox 360. As such, many fans of this franchise have been wanting a remastered collection for a long time, possibly something similar to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. There have been plenty of persistent rumors about a Gears of War collection in recent years.

Bonnie Jean Mah, who worked on the Gears of War series as Franchise Narrative Director, has announced that she’s joined Sony Santa Monica. She’s working with the team as Narrative Director and is “beyond thrilled” about the same. Along with working on Gears 5 and its live content, including the Hivebusters DLC, she’s also worked on Gears Tactics.

The Gears of War franchise was among the biggest and most popular properties in gaming in the Xbox 360 era, back when Epic Games delivered an excellent trilogy of revolution third person shooters that spawned an army of games trying to emulate its success with cover-based shooting mechanics, and though the series is obviously still a successful one, it’s fair to say that it’s lost some of the luster it once had.
