Multiple insiders have claimed that Gears of War 6 is set to be revealed this summer, although it might be a while until the game is actually released. With the franchise almost five years removed from its previous entry, fans have grown increasingly eager to hear any news regarding the next Gears of War title.
In January, a promisingGears of War 6 development revealed that developer The Coalition was ramping up work on its next game. An attentive sleuth found a handful of LinkedIn posts that revealed the developer's wave of new hires, which included an environment artist, cinematic animator, and senior lighting artist. While this was promising news for Gears fans, it still didn't offer anything concrete on the anticipated title, but that may be changing later this year.
During an appearance on the Kinda Funny xCast (timestamp 01:00:55), insider Jeff Grubb stated he had heard rumblings of a Gears of War 6 reveal happening this summer. However, the podcast participants also agreed that Gears 6 could be a launch title for Xbox's next generation of consoles, which would put its release date at least a couple of years away. Insider Tom Warren later backed up Grubb's claim in a tweet, when he simply said that Grubb's statement was «correct.» While multiple insiders agreeing on the matter is a promising development for fans awaiting a Gears of War 6 reveal, this news is still unconfirmed at this time.
A previous Gears of War 6 rumor claimed that the game is taking the open-world approach seen in Gears 5 and raising it to a new level. The Xbox Era podcast's Shpeshal Nick said that Gears 6 is «almost» fully open world and that its development is a bit further along than people might expect.
If Gears 6 is in fact set to be revealed this summer, it could be shown at Xbox's showcase in June when the company plans to show off future first-party games and third-party Game Pass titles. An exact date for the showcase has not been announced yet, but it usually happens early in the month.
Gears fans might have additional releases to look forward to, as a promising rumor regarding a remastered Gears of War collection spread earlier this year. An insider claimed that the collection had begun its internal testing phase at The Coalition, but similar to other rumors, this is still unconfirmed.
