Warhammer 40K Darktide was originally scheduled to debut on Xbox Series S|X only 'shortly' after the PC version (which landed on November 30th, 2022). It turns out Xbox players had to wait for nearly a year, but the game is finally launching tomorrow on consoles, and it's also receiving major improvements.

Well, things now will change quite a bit, and this isn’t an exaggeration. Patch 13 not only brings Darktide to Xbox, but it also brings customization options thanks to the new class-specific talent trees. If you drifted away from Darktide because it frontloaded all the most fun stuff into its opening hours, Patch 13 might be the one that makes you come back. Fatshark has posted a deep dive into the talent trees in advance of the class overhaul coming on October 4, and they include some pretty neat powers. Each of the classes is getting a tree that branches across three broad archetypes, with plenty of opportunities to bounce between and differentiate within them as you level up.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide features fun, grisly, co-op combat, but at launch was criticised for live service cruft - from an incomplete crafting system to meagre progression rewards. Some criticism also fell upon its four classes, who lacked the 'career' subclasses of its developer's previous game, Vermintide 2.

After plenty of waiting, and presumably some twiddling of thumbs for many Warhammer 40k fans, Darktide finally has an Xbox Series X/S release date.

Developer Fatshark has revealed the co-op grim dark shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will finally be coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles on October 4, almost a year after its 2022 PC release.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide has had a problematic launch that forced the developer to fix the game before releasing new content and the Xbox Series S|X version. However, developer Fatshark hasn't thrown in the towel and is now presenting a major new feature that will go live in October: full-fledged RPG-style skill trees for each class.

The development team behind Warhammer 40K: Darktide has confirmed that an overhaul to the current class system is coming with new RPG elements inbound. No exact date has been offered, but it's believed to be coming before the game's anniversary on November 30.

Nine months since launch, Warhammer 40K: Darktide sits on Steam with a «Mixed» review score, both in recent and all-time reviews. There were more than a few criticisms of Darktide at launch—the unfinished crafting system, the cosmetics store, crashes and performance issues—but one of the most common and consistent I've seen is that Darktide has only four character classes, compared to its predecessor Vermintide 2's five characters (with multiple subclasses apiece). Though Darktide does offer some nicely varied skills as you level up and weapons that dramatically change your play style, it was hard not to look at the class system as a downgrade from what Vermintide 2 players were used to.

The next incoming Warhammer 40K Darktide update will bring a bunch of welcome changes to the co-op shooter.

In recent months, co-operative industrial nightmare Warhammer 40,000: Darktide has added Chaos Spawn and new missions, as well as crossplay between the Steam and MS Store versions. In the next patch, which should be out mid-August, developer Fatshark is promising quality-of-life changes including additions to the mission board and crafting, as well as sharing the game's currencies between all of your characters.
