I never knew that I needed a mashup of Metal Gear Solid, BioShock, and Resident Evil, but after playing the demo for indie horror gem Endless Blue I can't wait to see more.

It is my great privilege at the dawn of this spooky season to tell you about a new, weird, and wonderful indie horror game inspired by classics like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Tenebris Somnia is an upcoming spookfest with a nightmare-inducing monster that comes to life in live-action cinematics.
Even without the live-action component, Tenebris Somnia is incredibly compelling as a big fan of old-school horror, particularly Clock Tower. The demo currently available via Steam is a nicely polished sample in which you play as a recently heartbroken person returning their ex-partner's apartment keys only to discover something's terribly amiss. There's a persistent tension and dread in piecing together the shards of this bloody, cryptic, messed-up nightmare, and my heart pounded throughout the final confrontation.
Developers Andrés Borghi and Tobías Rusjan say Tenebris Somnia's "secret ingredient" is its cinematics, and I can attest that the one cutscene in the demo is genuinely terrifying and surprisingly integrates pretty seamlessly into the gameplay. That can be attributed to cinematic production, convincing actors, and a horrible creature that's equally frightening in live-action and gameplay sequences.
There's no release date for Tenebris Somnia quite yet, but I highly encourage you to download the demo and give it a go. Aside from some very minor typos here and there, there's virtually zero jank, and if you get nothing else from it, the novelty of an 8-bit horror game with creepy live-action scenes warrants the download alone. It even has controller support! Turn off the lights, light a pumpkin spice candle, and steep yourself in the retro Halloween vibes.
Afterward, check out the best horror games to play during this exact season.

From classic literature and movies to TV and video games, the horror genre has become one of the most popular and widespread categories of culture, and although many horror games exist on most consoles and have since the beginning of the video game industry, the Xbox Series X/S has an almost unbelievable amount to choose from. Despite the abundance of games on the system, some horror games on the latest generation of Xbox are far scarier than others.
There is a ton of hype built up around Silent Hill. The franchise was dormant for years, and it didn’t seem like Konami had an interest in bringing this IP back to life. However, that finally changed in 2022 when we got our first Silent Hill Transmission video upload. Konami revealed that they were bringing Silent Hill back in a big way. Several video game projects were in the works, so we’ll have a few titles to enjoy from this beloved survival horror franchise. With that said, there was one game that might have surprised fans, and it’s a remake of Silent Hill 2.
There are plenty of expectations and hype built up around Silent Hill 2. For years, fans of the franchise waited for Konami to make some kind of move for this IP. The franchise remained dormant after the split between the company and Hideo Kojima. Fortunately, last year, we got the grand reveal of several Silent Hill projects. Konami is reviving this IP in a big way, with one of the more anticipated releases being a remake of Silent Hill 2. Today, a new bit of information was released through an industry insider.

Listings for Resident Evil 4 remake's iOS and iPadOS ports have gone live, showing a placeholder date of December 31. However, the mobile version is rather expensive, costing Rs. 3,599, matching the same default price tag as the mainline PC port. The game will be available with support for Universal Purchase, meaning the same app can be accessed across other Apple products you own, including the Mac. Similar to other Capcom titles, players will be granted a free trial/ demo before being asked to purchase the game for full content, hence it says ‘Free' download on the App Store page.
Update, 9/25/23: During Capcom's Tokyo Game Show presentation, the publisher announced that Resident Evil Village and its Winters' Expansion are coming to iOS on October 30. The game will be playable on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPad Air and iPad Pro with the M1 chip or later. The Winters' Expansion includes the Shadows of Rose story campaign.
Silent Hill fans were left waiting for what felt like an eternity in hopes of Konami showing the IP any new sign of life. Even before then, a set of games launched that didn’t quite hit the expectations and standards placed on the franchise from when Team Silent was developing the games. However, it looked like there was a change inbound when Hideo Kojima, a famed developer within Konami, revealed he was working on the franchise. Silent Hills was unveiled to the public through a demo, giving fans quite a bit of excitement about what could be coming. Unfortunately, that project died shortly after.
Resident Evil 4 Remake finally has the Separate Ways expansion, launched earlier this week. As well as letting players take the role of Ada and follow her own story, it also gives dataminers a bunch of new files to glean over - and one discovery and piqued the fanbase's interest.
Spencer Yan's My Work Is Not Yet Done is a narrative-driven investigative horror game that combines elements of the survival and simulation genres with a plot exploring "the imbrication and dissolution of human identities/meanings within uncanny wilderness", to quote the project's Github page. It follows the final days of Avery, last surviving member of a doomed hunt for the source of a strange transmission, and sees you performing complex acts of maintenance upon environmental sensors, while picking through journals and other found documents so as to "to discern the most viable 'truth' behind both Avery's mission and the signal itself".
