For nearly a decade now, Dungeon Fighter Online has been entertaining players with its genre-mashing goodness.

On one hand the game is a clear love letter to the days when arcades were packed with side-scrolling beat ‘em ups, one of the most entertaining video game genres of all time.

As a twist, however, Dungeon Fighter Online takes this side-scrolling beat ‘em up gameplay and adds a heap of RPG and MMO elements to it, turning it from the sort of game you’d punch your way through in half an hour to something players have been enjoying for years now.

The eighth season adds an entirely new area called Seon, which adds fresh new town settings with visually impressive landscapes, as well as multiple new dungeons and new monsters to encounter.

While the new update will obviously offer something new for dedicated, regular players of Dungeon Fighter Online, it also features streamlined events which are designed to assist new and returning players, with Level Up events that offer end-game level rewards.

Essentially, this means it’s easier than ever before to make your first steps in the game, build up some solid stats and integrate yourself into the game’s thriving, welcoming online community.

If you’re not familiar with it, Dungeon Fighter Online pays homage to the side-scrolling action games that came before it by offering stunning 2D pixel graphics and smooth character animations. Beat ‘em ups look best in 2D, and this game is only further evidence of that.

Like the best action games, combat is punctuated with spectacular hit effects, while players can get to grips with the flexible combo system to figure out a playing style that suits them best.

Back in the days of ‘90s beat ‘em ups, you’d just pick from a handful of similar characters then head out and fight a bunch of similar goons for a while. Here that’s far from the case, with a wide variety of character types and customisation options to choose from.

There are currently 17 base characters to choose from, each with their own unique combat styles. Whether you fancy yourself as a Slayer, a Gunner, a Mage, a Priest, a Thief, a Knight, a Demonic Lancer or the most recently introduced character the Archer, the opportunities for replay value here are clear.

The game can either be played solo, or if you fancy combining forces with your friends you can take on enemies in co-op, working together to take down a legion of epic bosses.
