THQ Nordic's Alone in the Dark reboot has been delayed, and is now set to come out on March 20, 2024. The decision to push the game back was made, the publisher said, because if it had gone ahead with the planned release in January, «the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time» for developer Pieces Interactive.
«The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays,» THQ Nordic said. «Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David and Jodie as the main protagonists.»
This is actually the second delay for Alone in the Dark. It had been set to come out in October of this year, but in September it was moved to January 16, 2024, «to ensure a breathtaking experience for everyone.»
It might just be. Alone in the Dark is a survival horror series that dates back to the early 1990s, and while recent entries haven't impressed—the 2015 reboot Alone in the Dark: Illumination holds a 19/100 score on Metacritic—THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive appear to be taking the effort seriously.
The new game stars award-winning actors David Harbour and Jodie Comer, and even better it features an original story written by Mikael Hedberg, a veteran of famed horrorsmiths Frictional Games, whose past credits include Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: Rebirth, and the brilliantly twisted Soma. With a little bit of luck, that could add up to an unexpectedly good survival-horror experience, and most AITD fans on social media seem happier to wait than have it rushed.
Alone in the Dark will be available for PC on Steam and GOG. While you wait for March to roll around, the free Alone in the Dark Prologue remains playable on Steam.

When Overwatch 2 launched back in 2022, the franchise switched to a free-to-play model, and as you might expect, there have been some complaints about how Blizzard has chosen to monetize the game. One sticking point has been the fact that in order to access new Heroes, you either have to buy the premium version of the most recent seasonal battle pass (which costs $10) or complete a number of hero challenges, which takes time. This kind of setup isn’t unheard of in a live-service game, but in a game like Overwatch where character balance is such a major focus, locking some folks who don’t want to pay out of using a new character for a certain amount of time has been a bone of contention.
Blizzard has published a new blog post reminding players to migrate their account security to the newer Battle.net mobile app, as the standalone Authenticator app will soon be removed from accounts and any accounts still using it will have their passwords reset. The authenticator itself will be removed from the app store on January 1st, but still be available for use until the 5th, at which time the migration needs to be completed to avoid any disruption of service.
, the world's first 3D survival horror game that inspired an entire genre, is back with a modern adaptation that honors the original game's creepy roots. THQ Nordic is setting out to recapture the haunting and inquisitive gameplay of the 1992 game. The 2024 remake staring David Harbour and Jodie Comer has even gained the admiration and approval of the series creator, Frédérick Raynal, an excellent sign for survival horror fans.
The original Alone in the Dark was revolutionary, for the time. Skeptical as I am about attempts to play on classic stories and high-profile names, I recently spent time with Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic's upcoming reboot of the series, one that revisits the setting of the 1992 game that practically invented survival horror. To my pleasure, I found that, true to their word, it wasn't an attempt to recreate or reboot the first game. Instead, it's something different. It's a new and fascinating story drawing on the same elements that I love: cosmic horror, detective fiction, psychological horror, and the good old Southern Gothic.

The reboot of survival-horror series Alone in the Dark has seen a second delay, with its release date now landing toward the end of next March. Publishers THQ Nordic ascribed the roughly two-month slip to their efforts in avoiding development crunch.
I’ve collected video game delay notices like Christmas candy, and today I have one more to shove in the stocking. The Alone in the Dark remake has been delayed once more until early next year — but the reason should leave most feeling jolly.
Originally scheduled for an October 2023 release, developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark reboot was delayed into January of next year to avoid a clash with other major games releasing around its original release date. With a little over a month left until its launch though, the survival horror title has been hit with another delay.
Alone in the Dark reboot has been delayed yet again, as publisher THQ Nordic decided in order to help developers over the holiday period.
THQ Nordic announced on Thursday that its planned reimagining has been delayed yet again, with another release date set for a few months later into 2024.
To be fair, video game developers do deserve to enjoy a stress-free holiday season while they're crafting a new survival-horror experience.
