THQ Nordic delays Alone in the Dark (again) to March 20

The original Alone in the Dark was revolutionary, for the time. Skeptical as I am about attempts to play on classic stories and high-profile names, I recently spent time with Pieces Interactive and THQ Nordic's upcoming reboot of the series, one that revisits the setting of the 1992 game that practically invented survival horror. To my pleasure, I found that, true to their word, it wasn't an attempt to recreate or reboot the first game. Instead, it's something different. It's a new and fascinating story drawing on the same elements that I love: cosmic horror, detective fiction, psychological horror, and the good old Southern Gothic.

The reboot of survival-horror series Alone in the Dark has seen a second delay, with its release date now landing toward the end of next March. Publishers THQ Nordic ascribed the roughly two-month slip to their efforts in avoiding development crunch.

The latter includes the “Reagent Starter Pack.” Pre-orders for both editions include the bonus “Legendary Grizzly Hazmat Outfit.”

I’ve collected video game delay notices like Christmas candy, and today I have one more to shove in the stocking. The Alone in the Dark remake has been delayed once more until early next year — but the reason should leave most feeling jolly.

THQ Nordic's Alone in the Dark reboot has been delayed, and is now set to come out on March 20, 2024. The decision to push the game back was made, the publisher said, because if it had gone ahead with the planned release in January, «the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time» for developer Pieces Interactive.

Originally scheduled for an October 2023 release, developer Pieces Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic’s Alone in the Dark reboot was delayed into January of next year to avoid a clash with other major games releasing around its original release date. With a little over a month left until its launch though, the survival horror title has been hit with another delay.
