THQ Nordic has delayed its Alone in the Dark reboot for a second time.
Originally scheduled for release in October 2023 before being delayed to next January, the game will now launch on March 20, 2024.
The publisher said the decision to delay the game was motivated by a desire to avoid crunch for its development team at internal Swedish studio Pieces Interactive, and to ensure that the quality of the final product meets expectations.
“The year is coming to an end, and the Christmas Holidays are upon us. However, until today, it didn’t seem that way for Pieces Interactive, the team developing our upcoming survival-horror game, Alone in the Dark,” THQ Nordic wrote.
“With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them. Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone in the Dark a new release date: March 20th, 2024.
“The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays.
“Furthermore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive want to ensure that the game not only meets but exceeds the expectations of the community, especially with the outstanding performances of Hollywood stars David and Jodie as the main protagonists.
“We understand that many people are eagerly awaiting the release, but your patience will be rewarded.”
Alone in the Dark is planned for release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The game stars David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) and Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy) as series protagonists Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood, as they explore the mysterious mansion of Derceto.
A free playable prologue for the game, called Grace in the Dark, is available to download now. It takes place a couple of weeks before the game and features a young girl called Grace Saunders as she wanders round the mansion.

The Last of Us Online was announced as a standalone multiplayer title during last year’s Summer Games Fest showcase and in May this year Naughty Dog gave us an update saying the project was still going ahead but they needed more time. They assured fans that the game was still coming.
We’d known for a while now that Naughty Dog was working on a standalone multiplayer Last of Us game, but recent months have raised questions about what state the project is in behind-the-scenes. Reports have claimed that its development team has been scaled back, and that though it hadn’t been completely cancelled, it had been put “on ice”. And though the project’s director confirmed as recently as last month that it was still in the works, that is officially no longer the case.
