Switch 2 Reportedly Skipping 2024, Launching Next Year

The Nintendo Switch's successor won't launch this year, according to a new report. The Switch 2 is now said to have a release window of early 2025, despite many in the gaming community widely assuming that it would be revealed and released this year.
This news is being reported by VGC, which quotes Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe. This journalist says he has multiple sources backing up this release window, suggesting we're in for a longer wait than expected.
Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who goes by PH online, revealed the news in his podcast, OX do Controle. "After consulting 5 sources from 3 different continents, all echoing basically the same thing, OX do Controle today reveals: the launch of the Switch's successor should only happen in 2025," says PH (machine translated).
While the podcast is in Portuguese, it was quoted in a report from Brazillian outlet The Enemy. Here, the sources behind this information are discussed, giving us more insight into what Switch 2 game developers know so far. "Some of them already seem to have been working with this date of the first quarter of 2025 for a while," says PH. "Others - in this case, two different sources - used the terms 'it was delayed to 2025'."
VGC backs this up with its own game dev sources, who said that they're working on Switch 2 games that they plan to release "early next year". This would suggest that this is around the time the console will be in our hands.
As we reported last weekend, the Switch 2 is also said to be backwards compatible. This is another claim that originates from the OX do Controle podcast. If true, this means that game devs don't have to worry about players moving on from original Switch games too soon, as they will still be able to play them even if they trade in their old console for the next-gen hardware.
It remains to be seen if either of these claims pan out, because as of right now, Nintendo hasn't even announced its next console. That announcement is still expected to take place sometime this year, however, as Nintendo moves on from the Switch, seven years since it launched in March 2017.
